I personally originally upvoted femboy because while my first choice would be no change, if it had t change, I would want it to be to that.
Then when I saw the assumption that upvoting either means "I want this to change" over "I would support this specific BUR", I downvoted it instead.
That's my problem with the math, it's using votes for a specific BUR to mean something other than "I would support this specific BUR". Supporting renaming otoko no ko to femboy is not the same thing as supporting renaming otoko no ko to something else.
To counter the sentiment that "nowhere else uses the term otokonoko", I'd like to point out that wikipedia has an article for it, whereas there's no article for trap. Probably since otokonoko is an actual term that isn't just something derived from an outdated, 20 year old star wars meme. But who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Remember: Wikipedia is user-generated content. That means anyone can edit. Anyone means anyone, even people who have no knowledge of the topic and are only there to do bikeshedding. The real joke here is the Wikipedia article for "otokonoko" having zero mentions of trap, a term which completely overtakes it in popularity in the west.

Exact logic I used too. I'm not the first and probably not the last to say this but I really do think the way the votes were counted were wrong.
...Unless I'm mistaken. Were only down votes on both polls counted for a plus on otoko no ko?
That whole page is just more evidence that wikipedia should never be taken seriously on anything related to culture. Arguing that the terms "trap" and "otokonoko" have no relation because there are no "professional" news articles, the only thing they consider a valid source, that make the connection. Any longtime anime fan would be familiar with the slang meaning of "trap" in anime circles, but you'd never be able to prove it as long as there's even one wikipedia editor that challenges the notion.

You sure about that? Because it's the fifth definition in Wiktionary's page for trap, even mentioning "otokonoko":
(slang, informal, usually considered offensive) A fictional character from anime, or related media, who is coded as or has qualities typically associated with a gender other than the character's ostensible gender; otokonoko, josou.
Going back to my original topic: this and the debate over The Guilty Gear Character Who Shall Not Be Named™ point out a serious problem with Danbooru: it doesn't matter how the moderators users vote, they'll be over-ridden by the Admins.

Which mods are you talking about? Because builders are not mods.

OK, my mistake, but it doesn't detract from my point:
A majority of people who voted on this did not want to change the tag over to "trap". So why did the tag change? Why even have a vote if the Admins will simply override it?
No, this name was stupid a decade ago and it's still stupid now. The tag should not be "otokonoko" for the same reason 1girl is not 1onna and breasts is not oppai.

Really weak argument. 1girl and breasts don't have the same connotations as trap.
1girl [...] don't have the same connotations as trap.
Bridget threads would beg to differ.
And again, literally nobody in the entire western anime fandom uses otokonoko. Tag names should be descriptive. You can't have a tag for traps (one of the most popular fetishes) be called "otokonoko" when nobody who hasn't browsed this site before has any idea what it means.
I don't even get what the crux of the argument here is and why the back-and-forth is this charged. Are we looking at anything objective about this topic anymore or are we only focused on the moral aspect of things now? I'm so confused as to what continues to warrant even more voting and pages upon pages of discussion of this that will likely never end for as long as one side isn't happy with the tag name, which is to say likely never. I've read through a few things and I don't understand what the inherent issue is honestly.
I wish I could mute forum topics or hide them from my view, or at the very least if there's a way to auto mark the topic as read. I read the forums regularly and I really don't want to keep up with reading what I assume will go on for another 20 pages unless admins finally have a breakdown and declare this will not be further discussable and lock things down but I imagine that won't happen either since they try to be as fair and objective as possible when it comes to site matters.
