Technically they're not unemployed, because they're operators for Rhodes Island now which means the Doctor can go send them on whatever silly missions he feels like and they have to do it.
These are not official art. They're submissions to the yearly design contest. The contest requires use of the template including the copyright notice on the bottom. All entries require it.
Explanation for the copyright tags as it's not obvious: The letterboxing and the text with the weird font are how bosses' special moves are announced in .hack//games. Cruel Exploitation is one of Corbenik's moves. The circular shape of the staff is from .hack//SIGN, in the last episode when Skeith manifests and data drains Sora.
That kinda looks like an imitation (or at least homage) to the official art style of Code Geass (especially the famous picture where Lelouch is squeezing his mother's boobs).
"leftist history nerd"?...Shall we discuss 'Shining Path' then, if we're going to touch on the subject of genocide, killing of indigenous people, and rape? Such horrors are not...and never were...the exclusive domain of European colonizers, nor can it be said it was actions that only happened in the past. I don't condone colonizing invaders doing it, but I also don't condone anyone else doing it.
Nobody has said "it's bad for colonizers to murder or rape but it's bloody fantastic for natives to do it towards themselves". There has been no "condoning" of any sort.
And considering the actual context of how this conversation started, "The Shining Path" would not be apropos. Indeed, this seems like a blatant attempt at trying to swipe at somebody's political views without actually contributing to the conversation.
For anyone curious what the comic is referring to, it's about a Good Friday tradition that some Catholic countries like Mexico do where they reenact the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. But in the Philippines, which I learn from the tv show Ripley's Believe it or Not, some believers take it further where they not only reenact the Crucifixion, but also get bloody whipped for real and get crucified with real nails staked into their palms!
Thankfully, most Filipinos don't do this on Good Friday since only a handful of people would do this with the local Catholic church discouraging the practice as they see it as "Spiritual vanity" and prefer people pray and reflect on Good Friday and Health Officials warning people that doing real whipping and staking might cause infections like Tetanus.
Every single time, if imperialistic and colonizing atrocities are on the table, the foul flies of Whataboutism flock en masse, parroting the exact same arguments said colonizers made up to justify the atrocities they so wanted to commit as a means to extract wealth and ressources
