Isn't Amtrak a complete joke compared to pretty much any European or Asian rail system? They must be desperate to put out something like this.

How many of those countries though have a major political party that generally hates passenger rail and any chance they get they try to defund and generally make life difficult to operate their national passenger rail?

Some quick google searches and running a comparison to the largest rail company in Europe, Deutsche Bahn, Amtrak is about 1/20th the size in terms of coverage, revenue, and employees. I don't think DB specializes in carrying passengers though, and the amount of actual rail that Amtrak owns and operates for it's own use is very small. At a guess, more than anything, Amtrak's problem might be that it's just too small scale while lacking integration in the rest of the US rail system. That maybe it's inefficient and inflexible?

This is a good run down on the US rail system. https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/how-us-rail-system-works

Passenger rail is always a kind of tricky business. Cost has always been a hurdle. Even in Japan, at the beginning of their passager rail system development the "father" of it actually lied pretty badly to the government on how much building it would cost. If he hadn't, the naysayers would never have approved it's development due to the cost, but he felt the importance of it was such that they'd easily see in the end just how much of a critical investment it was in the end once it got going.

Personal opinion, America would be better off prioritizing bike-centered stuff first than public transit. As for reasons, bikes seem to fit the individualistic spirit of our people better (like customize them, you can go off-trail, etc.), and transit comes with a whole host of sociopolitical issues like property allocation or eminent domain, crime aboard fleet vehicles or stations, fare pricing, funding for maintenance and expansion, and whatever else. They've already updated and built new bike and pedestrian infrastructure in my locality, and so far I've seen more people using it (though it could also be because of summer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ).

Yeah, these people don't understand that we don't have anything better. Or if you're from NW Minnesota like me, literally nothing. Only rail here is freight.

However some smartass mansplainers, possibly Americans, decided to criticize how dumb her shooting stance is since she will break her right arm from recoil due to holding her gun with only one hand. But mansplainers got humiliated when others point out the guns used in these events are 10m air pistols, (meaning no strong recoil) and all competitors are supposed to shoot their handgun with one hand only.

Hell, until after WW2 everyone fired pistols one handed. Unless you're shooting a huge caliber gun like a 500 magnum, or you have wrist damage you won't have any issues firing a pistol one handed.

The fact they think her arm will break from recoil shows they don't know anything about what they are talking about.

The reason some air pistol shooters put their offhand in a pocket is so they can be in a relaxed stance as much as possible, as a stiff muscle causes for jittery movement and thus will throw your aim off.

I've shot air pistols for a bit, got 2nd place in a local university-level competition event, but that's about it. It's been a decade since, but it seems things haven't changed that much.

Two handed shooting stances are for combat shooting. Thus the recoil can be compensated for quick fire. Precision is of lesser importance. Target shooters almost always use one hand, standing sideway to the target. This enables them to have an optimal line of sight along the outstretched arm. Recoil throwing the gun out of the sighting line doesn't matter, because the rate of fire also doesn't.

Vitalina Batsarashkina won 2 gold medals and a silver medal during the Olympics in shooting events, which she became a viral hit due to how cool she look where she used one hand to fire her handgun while her other hand was in her pocket.

The same Fudds who'd go 'She can't use a 9mm glock lets get her a .357 snubnosed instead'

.357 snubnoses are typically made of steel instead of the lighter aluminum-framed .38 snubnoses. Plenty of fudds still recommend carrying a .357 snub with .38 specials, since the two cartridges are one-way interchangable. That combo will recoil considerably less than .38 in an aluminum frame. There is some validity to it, but with how reliable and soft shooting modern 9mm sub-compacts are, it's still pretty fudd-y. The M&P Shield and P365 are downright pleasant to shoot versus snappy snubnoses.

    context:
when touhou 16 was officially uploaded to steam, several users uploaded their fangames as well.
one of the first was “东方胖次争夺战 TouHou Pants Contest” which stood out for being one of the first touhou games with adult content in Steam.
well, it turns out that the author did not upload the game.
someone uploaded a pirated copy and translated with google translator.
when this came to light, the real author made this fanart.
