Better than the other, still meh on changing it in general, but I much prefer a division of names than "red green blue" and "yellow." If we use the full names I don't hate this.
Will be really interesting to see the outcome of this thread. As far as I know Pokemon tags are the only ones using the name of 3+ games in a single tag.
Agreed. I think full names are better in principle but the "and" formatting for the older gens is clunky. I guess the other option would just be like pokemon_red_green_blue_yellow which is probably worse.
I'm surprised no one's suggested this until now, but since commas can't be used in tags, why not use slashes for the tags that cover more than two games? Like my previous BURs, I don't really have any strong feelings on this one way or the other, but this does seem like something that could work.
This works really well because our autocomplete already works for slashes (first good thing to come out of Fate (Series)).
Commas could be allowed in tags if we'd prefer that. The main reason they're disallowed is because historically they were used to separate tags in some places (they still are in some obscure places like https://danbooru.donmai.us/tags?search[name_comma]=1girl,2girls, which hopefully no one actually uses).

Then make them all slashes. The inconcistency in the tag list/autocomplete is going to look like shit when we have ten tags like pokemon_diamond/pearl/platinum sitting next to another ten in the pokemon_black_and_white format.

This would also be an acceptable solution, though it would also open up several cans of worms such as a blitz of copyright tag renames and arguments over whether we should use the oxford comma.
Like Pokemon Emerald and Platinum, Pokemon Yellow isn't just a Pokemon Red/Green/Blue v2, but a whole other storyline as the "game from anime" where you get Pikachu and both the three starters.
As the tags are being discussed as a whole, I believe that a parallel topic would be pointless
This needs its own topic. Make a favgroup for posts you think should fall under it, too.

I mean, it's only four tags, unless you count the *_(prototype) tags. I think it's fine to make an exception for the first four gens, though that's mainly because I think having a slash in a tag with only two games just looks a little off. (That might just be a me thing; there's nothing inherently wrong with that approach.)

If commas in tags are possible to enable, then can't we just do that? Personally I'd rather stick to the format that's used the most across different websites, which would be "Pokemon Black and White" and so on.
Is length really an issue? While those two examples are long, I've seen plenty of copytags for other franchises that are just as long, if not longer. Still, I wouldn't be opposed to shortening them to pokemon black and white 2 and pokemon ultra sun and moon. No clue what to do for LGPE though.

We try to avoid long tags when possible because they wrap around in the tag list and look really bad, so yes sometimes it's a concern. It doesn't really matter for official titles, but in cases like these where we're coming up with a tag name just for ourselves anyway, we might as well use a name that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.
A third alternative would just have the two main games, and add the others as aliases: so pokemon gold & silver and pokemon crystal as alias to it; pokemon red & green with pokemon yellow and pokemon blue aliased to it. This way we avoid overly long names, but not sure how people feel about that. This final option also opens the door for making the tags for updated versions subtags instead of aliases without renaming the parent tag, if we decide it's worth it in the future.

I actually really like this option. Pokemon games usually have only 2 versions at release anyway.
I greatly dislike the & tags. We don't use & in tags unless they're the official spelling for copyright/character/artist tags, or the most widely known iteration for meme tags.
