The term is clearly being used to refer to people they perceive as being so obsessed with yuri that they'll attack anyone that makes any argument against it being so. From what I've heard, the original JP event took place over a weekend and was also during the height of COVID lockdowns, so there was plenty of time for players to grind out the fancount. JP Cygames fans are no strangers to intense grind, see GBF, so that probably helped.

In contrast, the global event started around 7:00pm PST on a Monday. It would have been near noon in SEA, night in most of the U.S., and dead of night in Europe. Had this started on a Friday night, we would have had a better chance of hitting 2 trillion fans.
