vaporwave

蒸汽波

A retro-styled music and art genre that gained popularity in the 2010s, characterized by a surreal nostalgia for the pop culture, technology, advertising, and overall aesthetics of the 1980s and 1990s.

Visually, it incorporates 80s and 90s aesthetics and features harsh pink and cyan neon palettes. It combines surreal elements, such as glitch art, Japanese text, stylized Ancient Greco-Roman architecture or sculptures, and Memphis Design geometric shapes, with cyberpunk tropes, such as 3D wireframes, 90s web design, and the Windows 95 logo.

Not be confused with synthwave, which tends to be less surreal and ironic, and without the 1990s influences.
