I'm looking for feedback in two aspects, here. First, I was under the impression that Dan always wants to have the highest-available quality image. These are larger, higher-quality versions of a pair of quite-old posts, post #3187352 and post #3187350, respectively, from a different source. As these images were already on the site, I was under the impression that contributing higher-quality versions would be a very "safe" kind of contribution. However, they weren't approved. In the future, should I bother seeking out higher-res versions of existing posts? Does a post already having an approved version on the site have any bearing at all on the approval process?
Furthermore, with this pair of posts in particular, I've encountered a problem following the guidelines on help:post_relationships. The old pair of posts was parented to each-other as they are variations on the same loop. As instructed, I parented the older, lower-resolution posts to my new uploads, and then one of my new uploads to the other, such that each post was parented to it's own highest-res version and the two variations where still related to each-other. Since the new posts are now deleted, the parent relationships of the old posts are now broken-- they are no longer related to eachother. To fix this I now need to go back and either revert them to their original status, or appeal the post deletions, which I'd rather not bother with. Either way, it's created extra work for me, just to avoid effectively vandalizing the site by breaking existing parent relationships. This seems like a bit of an unreasonable ask on the uploader. Personally, I'm a bit neurotic about keeping everything in it's appropriate place, so I'll be sure to go correct the parent relationships; but in general, I think if the uploader's post gets deleted, they probably shouldn't be then asked to then take further actions to "clean up" afterwards. However, changing parent relationships happens outside of the upload process and touches posts beyond the ones uploaded. Is there any consideration being given on how we could automate the correction of broken parent-child relationships as a result of post deletions? Is there an automatic process to make these corrections/reversions, that I'm not aware of?
Finally, I'm now 1-for-5 in terms of getting uploads approved. Small sample-size, sure, but 80% deleted certainly feels like I'm getting off to a poor start!! If you've got feedback on my uploads in general, feel free to share.
