Art contest tags: general or copyright?

Posted under Tags

I don't think we can force overaching consistency on this due to the different kinds of art contests that exist. Changing them all to general tags would result, in the cases of Genjuu Hunter Illustration Contest, Mirai Akari's New Virtual YouTuber Illustration Contest and Pixiv's Virtual Youtuber Audition, in some posts losing their only copytag. Meanwhile, changing them all to copytags would mean that some posts, in the case of Camila's Valentine's Day Art Contest, would needlessly have an extra copytag on posts that would otherwise normally have one.

But it is important that something get discussed, since I don't think these tags have gotten much discussion. There is an argument towards copytaggification, since something like Idolmaster Shiny Colors Costume Competition and Snowbreak Design Contest could theoretically imply their respective copytags, but then one could ask the question of whether or not we'd even want contest tags to imply them.

I guess we can coarsely partition art contests into those that have one obvious copyright theme, such as Idolmaster Shiny Colors Costume Competition, and those who don't, such as those VTuber illustration contests where most submissions are probably original if it weren't for the contest. One may argue that one-off character designs entered into an art contest should be tagged original so they won't lose their only copyright tags if we make the contest a general tag.

If the justification for having some be copytags is that the image otherwise is left copytagless wouldn't that mean tags like Idolmaster Shiny Colors Costume Competition and pixiv_fate/grand_order_contest_2 should be turned into gentags and the images given an Idolmaster and FGO tag instead?

I mean, the latter only has 28 posts without the FGO tag out of 327 and the former has Shiny Colors tagged on all of them. But I meant that moreso that the characters present in the post would otherwise have no copytag representing them.

I think that in practice that makes sense, but it seems inconsistent whether or not they are actually being sorted that way at the moment.

I didn't mean to suggest that they were sorted that way, I was just trying to think about it from the perspective of other copytags.

BUR #46598 has been rejected.

category pixiv_fate/grand_order_contest_2 -> general
mass update pixiv_fate/grand_order_contest_2 -> fate/grand_order
category pixiv_fate/grand_order_contest_1 -> general
category mahou_shoujo_taisen_contest_1 -> general
category mahou_shoujo_taisen_contest_2 -> general
category idolmaster_shiny_colors_costume_competition -> general

Let's standardize them then and formalize that they are gentags unless it is functioning as the sole copytag.
