Trademarks that are Copyright but probably should have been General

Posted under Tags

According to howto:copyright, trademarks that do not have character tags under them should not be categorized as Copyright. This has been the consensus as reflected by forum posts such as forum #78146, forum #164719, forum #328964, and BURs such as BUR #35186.

Hence, I'd like to propose that the following trademark tags be recategorized as General. Since I'm not certain about all of them, I won't submit a BUR just yet and hope to receive some opinions. Would also appreciate additions to the list.

Music, cameras, and electronics

Aircrafts and airlines

These airlines have official collaborations with copyrights like Kantai Collection. They are also depicted in humanization projects like Flight Airplanes. Not sure if that justifies the copyright status.

These airlines did not officially collaborate with copyrights. Their uniforms may have been referenced in fanart.

These aircraft manufacturers may have humanization fanart, or even humanization projects like Flight Highschool

This is a fictional aircraft manufacturer that is a brand name imitation of Northrop Grumman

Cars, trucks, and heavy machinery

Others

  • Dior, luxury fashion brand
  • Chanel, luxury fashion brand
  • Kick.com, streaming platform
  • Lipton, brand of tea and tea-based beverages
  • Marlboro, cigarette brand
  • TBS, Japanese media and broadcasting company, produced lots of copyrights, but not sure if itself needs to be one see forum #387091

BUR #47582 has been approved by @evazion.

category canon_(company) -> general
category casio -> general
category dolby -> general
category fender_musical_instruments_corporation -> general
category hasselblad -> general
category hewlett-packard -> general
category jvc -> general
category nippon_columbia -> general
category nvidia -> general
category panasonic_corporation -> general
category national_(panasonic) -> general
category skullcandy -> general
category yamaha -> general

I'm fairly certain tags in Music, cameras, and electronics don't have character tags associated, nor do they otherwise justify being copyright tags through situations like forum #341828. I've made sure none of the posts affected by this BUR will be copyrightless if it gets approved.

I'll wait a bit for the other tags in case there are discussions.

I still believe that entertainment companies holding multiple copyrights like TBS should be copytags.
I don't have any good reason to justify it, other than the fact that those tags are primarily seen in company_connection posts, and keeping them down under the list of gentags may confuse others as to what the connection is about.

Noted, I'll exclude TBS from BUR.

mass update ~gomira_(national) ~hayabusa_(national) -> tsuburaya_productions
rename gomira_(national) -> gomira_(tsuburaya_productions)
rename hayabusa_(national) -> hayabusa_(tsuburaya_productions)

Regarding National_(Panasonic), Damian (user #554505) notified me that Gomira (National) and Hayabusa (National) are associated with the tag. Those characters were created by Tsuburaya Productions for commercials of National's vacuum cleaners, so I believe they should use Tsuburaya Productions as copyright tags. Accordingly, the qualifiers of Gomira and Hayabusa should be Tsuburaya_Productions.

I believe these should stay as copyright tags - motorsports teams are sports teams, and should be treated the same way as traditional ball sport teams and e-sport teams, which are tagged as copyrights. In the same way that the players and coaches in sports and esports teams can be considered their characters, the drivers and race queens can be considered the characters of motorsports teams.

That is a good point. I agree they should remain copyright tags.
