Berserk Character Implication. Spoliers?

Posted under Tags

imo no to the spoiler bar/latter

blatant spoilers + not totally neccesary either way (if one image depicts both I think anyone would just add both manually and move on, preferably with spoilers and dual persona). and so far that seems handled properly

for Femto I'm not sure. idk if there's precedent of another spoilery dark persona / transformation being implied to the main character. but the Eclipse is one of those poorly kept spoilers with barely any art of it or Femto being tagged with spoilers so shrug emoji

Is it really necessary to protect spoilers for a 30-year old series with a very well-known twist? I think spoilers should have an expiration date, there always comes a point where they become common knowledge, specially in popular franchises that openly present those spoilers expecting the audience to be aware of them.

It's a somewhat old discussion, but in topic #17266 I suggested a similar implication between two Chrono Trigger characters and a couple of people spoke up against it. I was personally swayed by someone posting that they were able to avoid the spoiler in question because of Danbooru's tagging (I think.)

Evazion's post in that thread probably bears the most weight:

If a character has multiple visually distinct forms then they get separate tags. We're not very consistent on when spoiler characters imply the base character though. It usually depends on how loudly people complain about it. Midna (true) / Midna is a case where the spoiler character implies the base character, even though they're pretty visually different. Ultimate Madoka / Kaname Madoka is a case where the spoiler character doesn't imply the base character, even though visually they're the same and nearly all Ultimate Madoka posts are tagged as Kaname Madoka anyways. If you search Kaname Madoka, you can't avoid seeing the existence of Ultimate Madoka, the tag shows up in the related tags list even with spoilers hidden, and most people don't even bother to tag Ultimate Madoka posts as spoilers anymore anyways.

This is why I'm cynical about hiding spoilers. Spoilers are impossible to completely avoid on a site like this. If you're looking up fanart of some show or game on the internet, you should expect to see spoilers. Spoilers have a short half-life, they quickly go from being a huge deal to something people stop trying to hide in only a few short years.

The only handful of posts of Femto where Griffith is not already tagged are of characters cosplaying as Femto. And even though this is technically a spoiler, I would bet most people who start reading Berserk already know about the twist.
Bringing up the age-old example of Anakin Skywalker vs Darth Vader, it would be like Darth Vader having his face out in the open which clearly shows he's Anakin Skywalker and still trying to protect it as a spoiler. I don't think it makes much sense.
