Chrono Trigger Qualifiers

Posted under Tags

BUR #3292 has been approved by @evazion.

mass update robo -> robo_(chrono_trigger)
mass update marle -> marle_(chrono_trigger)
mass update magus -> magus_(chrono_trigger)
mass update crono -> crono_(chrono_trigger)
mass update lavos -> lavos_(chrono_trigger)
mass update ozzie -> ozzie_(chrono_trigger)

Single word names that could benefit from being updated for clarity.

EDIT: The bulk update request #3292 (forum #171555) has been approved by @evazion.

Updated by DanbooruBot

While we're at it, there are other character tags that should be made consistent.
Either kaeru_(chrono_trigger) should be moved/aliased to frog_(chrono_trigger), or Magus and a bunch of other characters should be moved/aliased to their Japanese names (probably the former, since the Danbooru tide has been drifting in that direction lately, plus it would be a lot less work.)

Edit: removed my other suggestion

There's also a funky situation where janus zeal is currently a separate tag from magus, which I don't think we do for similar characters who have plot twists related to their true identities unless their two personas are literally distinct entities. It may have been tagged that way to avoid spoilers, but being overly conscious of spoilers for a game as old as CT seems unnecessary at this point. I would suggest combining them.

(Spoilered just in case, even though I'm arguing that CT spoilers don't matter.)

I don't think they should. He has a distinct appearance, so needs a separate tag to be searched, and even putting spoilers aside I don't think a magus younger tag search would be at all intuitive for fans searching images of Janus at this point.

I'm not sure how we typically handle characters with spoiler identities, but I do know that for characters with multiple separately named, visually distinct identities, we tend to have separate tags for them. Janus Zeal and Magus look nothing alike in most, if not all examples.

If we don't care about spoilers for an old game (though I don't agree with the "spoilers don't matter for old games" argument, not everyone was alive when it was released or has the free time to do everything they want to do), then an implication might be in order, but I don't think combining the tags into one is beneficial.

One of the reasons I favor English names for videogames is because there are many copyrights like this where we've been using English names all along without anyone really noticing.

If a character has multiple visually distinct forms then they get separate tags. We're not very consistent on when spoiler characters imply the base character though. It usually depends on how loudly people complain about it. Midna (true) / Midna is a case where the spoiler character implies the base character, even though they're pretty visually different. Ultimate Madoka / Kaname Madoka is a case where the spoiler character doesn't imply the base character, even though visually they're the same and nearly all Ultimate Madoka posts are tagged as Kaname Madoka anyways. If you search Kaname Madoka, you can't avoid seeing the existence of Ultimate Madoka, the tag shows up in the related tags list even with spoilers hidden, and most people don't even bother to tag Ultimate Madoka posts as spoilers anymore anyways.

This is why I'm cynical about hiding spoilers. Spoilers are impossible to completely avoid on a site like this. If you're looking up fanart of some show or game on the internet, you should expect to see spoilers. Spoilers have a short half-life, they quickly go from being a huge deal to something people stop trying to hide in only a few short years.
