[Update] Shinon -> Sinon

Posted under Tags

create alias shinon_(sao) -> sinon
mass update shinon_(sao:alo) -> char:sinon_(sao:alo)
mass update shinon_(sao:hf) -> char:sinon_(sao:hf)

Putting this way around as, although almost always written in katakana, when it is romanised, be it in English translations or Japanese sources (eg. post #2624218 which comes from her character entry in http://hr.sao-game.jp/character/) it is invariably rendered as Sinon.

It is never "Shinon" - this came from a fan translation on BT which was taken down long ago, and other incorrect character tags from that translation have since been corrected (eg. "Lyfa" is now "Leafa"), but Sinon doesn't even get as much as an alias from her correct name to the wrong one, making her very difficult to find for a passing user (especially as the difference comes so early in the name).

Only the first tag has a significant number of posts, and this means of alias is similar to that used in fixing Lyfa to Leafa previously (whereby the main tag gets an alias but the rarer version ones do not).

EDIT: edited the request to go to Sinon rather than Sinon_(sao). There is nothing currently with the Sinon tag and the wiki is just a page with a link to shinon_(sao).

EDIT: The tag alias shinon_(sao) -> sinon has conflicting wiki pages. sinon should be updated to include information from shinon_(sao) if necessary.

EDIT: The bulk update request #1761 (forum #149227) has been approved by @Hillside_Moose.

Is there any reason to have the character tag go without franchise though? There's no shinon either, but the character was tagged under shinon_(sao).

Character tags without franchise / artist feel like traps that necessitate additional clicks just to verify that they're indeed the character you're trying to tag ( 一一)

No franchise/artist given is the norm, and the overwhelming majority of characters in the database don't have them. Characters only tend to get qualifiers if there are multiple ones with the same name - in "shinon"'s case, there's shinon (fire emblem) as well.

I agree it should be changed from Shinon to Sinon

True and the only reason there is no tags with Sinon it because people tend to delete the tag
I've seen multiple cases now were people try to tag Sinon images with Sinon tags and some people just delete the tag and even pictures that actually have the name written Sinon on it just like the picture you refer to

It is funny the renamed Sinon to Shinon have that many tags instead of the original name
And it kind of funny to think if you Google Shinon you get some few images with Sinon and some random stuff but if you Google Sinon you pretty much only get Sinon images

That’s not too surprising. The established tag for that character is shinon_(sao), so if someone puts the “wrong” tag on, it’ll be removed. The correct way to change a tag with that many posts is requesting an alias, which this thread is for.

“Shinon” is the Danbooru-standard way to romanize シノン. Have a look at howto:romanize, which explains everything, including why we tend to ignore “official” spellings and when to use them anyway.

^ This, please don't go around adding the sinon tag to posts tagged with shinon (sao) and wait for this bulk request to be resolved instead.
