2nd PRY of the Research VIII Series, Third Ship Reveal and also Happy 4th of JULY RAAHHHH WTF IS A KILOMETEEERRR ๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿฆ… ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Kansas is a real ship design and is laid down in 1917. The design was later improved from the South Dakota 1920 Super Dreadnoughts; they were paused due to the Battle of Jutland and cancelled few years later.

And yes, this is the Successor of the Colorado-Class Battleships, Kansas is planned to be a Heavier, Bulkier and a bit slower than Colorado but thanks to its Vermont type Acceleration engine (Max 23 knots), she can quite take a punch.

The South Dakota class was laid down in 1920/21, but none of the 6 ships were named Kansas. They were also designed to be faster than the Colorados, not slower - 23 knots to the Colorados' 21.

It's really a South Dakota class (1920) and the reason why she is called Kansas is because...all ships of this cancelled class share the name with a way more popular historical ship and WG doesn't want to give the same name to two different ship.
The only one not taken was Montana, but again the canceled Montana-class is way more popular than a bit faster colorado with triple turrets.

Given that it's highly unlikely Indiana (the least famous of the SoDaks) will ever get added to the game, WG could have quite safely used that name.

this is the Project 66 cruiser from WoWs right?

Project 66 was a real Soviet Navy program, cancelled after Stalin's death. Naming it Moskva is really dumb, however - that name was already assigned to one of the Stalingrad-class battlecruisers, laid down in 1952.
