Well, if the commander cower in fear, the ones under him wouldn't fight that well.
Band of Brothers illustrated this point nicely. And Capt Winter didn't seem like he died 5 seconds into a fight.

Reminded me hearing in the news a long time ago a bookstore named Isis Books and Gifts repeatedly being vandalized because people confused the Egyptian Goddess for ISIS, the Islamic State. Looks like the store still exists, but had to slap Goddess at the front of the name.
