He first appeared as a spy of the Hidden Leaf Village only to betray the Villagers and complete his true purpose of serving is actual lord Orochimaru and move to the Hidden Sound Village.

He is a Medical Ninja, and thus able to heal himself since he is trained in Medical Ninjutsu.
