vaginoplasty
Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure to construct a vulva, vagina and vaginal canal. Labiaplasty and Clitoroplasty may also be performed as well. It is a type of sex reassignment surgery.
Originally performed on a cis woman in 1892 who was born with vaginal agenesis, using a graft of her rectum known as "intestinal substitution vaginoplasty" to create a vaginal canal. A cis woman in 1903 who was intersex and born with vaginal agenesis would have her penis inverted to create a vaginal canal known as "penile inversion vaginoplasty." This technique would be furthered developed in trans women. It was then performed on a trans woman named Dora Richter in 1931. In modern day, Vaginoplasty is mainly pursued by trans women who desire a vagina due to genital dysphoria apart of their transition but may also be performed on cissexual women who want a deeper vaginal canal, better sexual function, or vaginal cancer, subsequently resulting in a vaginectomy (removal of the vagina).
