seven lucky gods

七福神

七福神 (Shichi-Fuku-Jin, lit. Seven Lucky Gods) are the seven gods of fortune in Japan.

They originated from various mythologies of India and China. However, their myths and shapes are far different from their origins.

They are often depicted on their ship, the 宝船 (Takarabune, lit. Treasure Ship). According to Japanese folklore, if you want to dream a lucky hatsuyume, you shall put a picture of Takarabune under your pillow.

Bishamonten, Benzaiten and Ebisu are often worshipped independently.
