radagast

A minor character in Tolkien's Legendarium. Also known as Radagast the Brown, he was one of the five Istari, along with Gandalf and Saruman, who was sent to Middle-Earth to guide its people.

He is only briefly mentioned in the novels but is given a more prominent role in Peter Jackson's adaption of The Hobbit where he is portrayed by Sylvester McCoy. He is mainly a lover and defender of nature, plants, and animal life.
