The third main battle tank of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. It entered service in 1990, is operated by a crew of three, and has the typical slab-sided look of vehicles protected by composite armor. The diesel-powered Type 90 is armed with a license-built 120mm smoothbore cannon, a pintle-mounted Browning M2 .50 cal. machine gun, and a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun.
