Kanata established the name shortly after the three decided to start renting a sharehouse together (同居 doukyo is Japanese for "living together", as in a sharing a house). This arrangement later grew to include Suisei's sister Anemachi, although she's not a Hololive member or a Vtuber in her own right; Coco also continues to live in the Doukyo's sharehouse despite her retirement from Hololive in July 2021.
