remove alias small_breasts -> flat_chest

Reason: Small breasts and flat chests are not the same thing. There is a noticeable difference between them.

Examples of small breasts:
Examples of flat chests:

I haven't been able to find a solid reason for this alias to exist. The only discussion so far seems to be in topic #3404.

Additionally, I've seen disagreement with this alias voiced in comments several times now.

And in my opinion, the difference between these tags is worth tagging more than the difference between huge and gigantic breasts, yet those are separate tags.

Actually, there are three flavors of tags for breasts larger than normal: large, huge and gigantic. Conversely, there is only one tag to describe smaller than normal breasts: flat chest. Flat chest to me means no breasts as opposed to small breasts, and I only use it when the girl is as flat as a board, whether exposed or not. If a small-breasted has her breasts exposed, then and only then do I use the breasts tag.

If the alias is removed and the small breasts tag is brought back, then it should not be automatically implicated to the breasts tag. That tag is used for when breasts are noticeable, and unexposed small breasts are generally not.

Agreed, I don't think it should be implicated either.

Before everyone starts patting each other on the back, you have to define the size range of "small."

Flat chest is currently defined as:

For Danbooru purposes, girls with breasts roughly one-third of the volume of their head and smaller.

I think defining small breasts as "about one-third of the volume of the head or smaller, but not flat" and redefining flat chest as "completely flat" would work.

The actual RL relation between the two is more like:
flat_chest implicates small_breasts.

You're limiting small_breasts to the upper limit of its definition while creating unnecessary discussion (aka comment flame wars) on borderline small breasts/flat_chest posts. Excluding images with rather inflated heads, non-flat breasts are very close to breasts (1/3 head size rule) and are often tagged with both tags (see tags on your examples). And how do you tell if a breast is "completely" flat?

When there is no noticeable 'bump'. The chest, when viewed from the side, would be almost vertical (excluding nipples). The breasts would not have any significant volume compared to the head.

But we don't implicate gigantic_breasts and huge_breasts to large_breasts, even though they are logically subsets.

Do you have an alternative suggestion for the definition?

flat_chest would be around A-cup - as close to flat as possible. Most loli or child images would fit into this.

small_breasts would be B-cup - girl has breasts, but nothing you could lift.

breasts would be C to D-cup, large_breasts around E-F, huge_breasts around G-H, gigantic_breasts over that.

Just want to point out that cup sizes are not internationally standardized and can vary amongst different countries. They also can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer of garments.

Wikipedia also indicates that it is dependent on the country as well and the system they use, particularly the two bigs one they list are the UK versus continental Europe systems

Wouldn't that imply that all characters with realistic, average breasts would be tagged small? I mean, that definition sweeps up girls with an American D-cup, which is only a 5-inch different between bust and band size.

I think people forget how unrealistic most anime characters are built.

You're right. I used one-third because that's what flat_chest's wiki already says, but that seems far too large. Maybe one-sixth or so would be better.

I like this a lot better, +1.

I personally dislike the head size metric, and was just using it because all the other ones do.

Not directed at you, but as per wiki definiton, flat_chest should not be used for child characters.

They are a subset of the breasts tag which specifies breasts of any size > 1/3 of the character's head. Gigantic_breasts is essentially only needed to keep track of ToS violations.
