create alias rifle_cartridge -> cartridge_(weapon)
create alias handgun_cartridge -> cartridge_(weapon)
create alias shotgun_shell -> cartridge_(weapon)
To be consistent with the other variants.

Related: forum #400558, where Evasion agrees that the distinction between rifle and handgun cartridges is silly.
(-1) for redundancy, since this can be solved by searching *_cartridge for those with brass casing and a solid bullet.

This isn't redundant at all, since *_cartridge searches for every cartridge tag we have. It's basically the cartridge tag before it was deprecated.
Cartridge (weapon) specifically searches for weapon cartridges, which is needed because to do so currently is a three-tag search, since we have separate tags for rifle and pistol cartridges.

create alias cartridge_(weapon) -> ammunition
We already have ammunition. cartridge (weapon) is a duplicate tag for this. Proposing an alias to that instead.
I disagree on merging them completely. Pistol and rifle cartridges look very different, and they both look nothing like shotgun shells.
Compare this:

to these:
Aliasing cartridge_(weapon) away doesn't change the issue that looking for full cartridges is a three-tag search, and ammunition is a catch-all tag that includes everything including artillery shells. I'd be open to having shotgun shell, rifle cartridge, and handgun cartridge imply cartridge (weapon) rather than be aliased to it, but the tag needs to be populated more for that to happen.

Artillery shell exists, we could have a catch-all for lesser ammo under something like small arms ammunition.
Personally I believe the far bigger issue is bullet which is 99% cartridge (weapon), to a layperson they're the same thing, this is another one of those gun nerd cohort tags, let alone the rifle/handgun cartridge distinction.
Also: ammunition belt implies neither cartridge (weapon) nor even ammunition for some reason (ammunition* doesn't rectify it).

artillery shell is 100 posts, 1/40th of the tag. You'd see one artillery shell every two pages of results.
Even when accounting for every other large ammunition tag, non-handheld ammunition is less than 20% of the results. You're asking to make a subtag to ammunition that would collect what already is most of the results. We might as well separate large and small ammunition into different tags at that point.
