Requesting further clarification about oc x canon

Posted under Tags

So I've noticed that in the oc x canon wiki it mentions that "unnamed or faceless characters don't count" and I felt a bit confused about what this exactly means. I'm assuming that for the faceless portion it specifically means generic characters that don't have a face like a mob character or Letter-heads (such as T-head trainer, P-head producer, T-head admiral, etc) but unnamed could mean either the OC or canon character in question. If it means the OC I feel as if its unnecessary to exclude unnamed OCs for a few reasons.

-The uploader might not know the name of the OC in question
-The uploader noticed a name but couldn't translate it (As machine TLs are highly discouraged)
-The yume/selfshipper/artist didn't give their OC a name

Personally I think that the wiki should just mention that faceless characters don't count only. An unnamed OC is still an OC nonetheless and should be tagged with oc x canon when applicable. When I think of OC x Canon I imagine its a unique OC that is distinct enough to not be confused with a canon player character, NPC or MC. While knowing the name of the OC would be useful for booru purposes I don't believe it needs to be a hard requirement for adding the tag to a post. There are also situations where a more vaguely defined character such as saniwa_(touken_ranbu) or yuu_(twisted_wonderland) are given some leeway in terms of how the artist chooses to depict them that isn't on the same level as protagonist_(susanghan_messenger) which would just be your standard MC x Canon pairing. Should those be considered as OCs or is it required for them to look vastly different from their canonically defined features?

I would like to hear the input of others about this topic so it becomes much clearer as to how this tag should be defined!

the "unnamed or faceless characters" line sounds to me like it's trying to convey that the tag doesn't account for characters meant to function more-so as a self insert for the viewer rather than the artist. usually these kinds of viewer self-insert characters have "boring" designs or are indeed faceless. the line is a little confusing but the spirit is there.

or in other words, if you wouldn't tag a self-insert character with original, you wouldn't tag it oc x canon either.
