If we're invoking the Japanese practice for futa, why not so with VTubers as well? Just like with Japanese Wikipedia, the main tag for them on Pixiv is バーチャルYouTuber, and while VTuber has nearly as many posts tagged as the main tag, they similarly have a redirect to the main tag. Virtual YouTuber Shiten'nou is similarly バーチャルYouTuber四天王 elsewhere online.

He didn't ignore your question though, the answer is fundamentally speaking "because some folks would prefer that VTuber be the main tag name over virtual YouTuber", and from that standpoint, it's also ultimately going to come down to whether or not evazion or NNT feel the same way.
