Cappie is NOT "Cool Mita"

BUR #59844 has been rejected.

create alias cool_mita_(miside) -> cappie_(miside)
remove alias cool_mita_(miside) -> cappie_(miside)

If they are separate characters, then the alias should be removed afterwards. This will free up the tag in case anyone depicts the actual Cool Mita.

Going through Cappie's wiki it would seem that they are different from Cool Mita, although we don't actually have an image of what "Cool Mita" actually looks like

The issue with this is that Cappie is frequently known as Cool Mita due to the misunderstanding that they were one and the same.

For example on Pixiv the Cappie tag (キャッピー) is linked to the Cool Mita Pixiv Encyclopedia entry. TV Tropes also lists her with the name Cool Mita in their MiSide page.

Then the misunderstanding should be mentioned in the wiki, not perpetuated by us. This isn't like an unofficial nickname that only applies to one character. This is explicitly referring to a completely different canonical character.

If we keep the alias and someone posts a depiction of Cool Mita, what would we tag her with? Cool_Mita_(Real)_(Miside)? The most straightforward solution is to just use the tag names for the characters they actually represent.

I'd agree of there was a character that existed, but she only exists as like two sentences in the entire game while on the other hand you're pushing to make it harder for some users to find the character by leaving the tag blank in reservation for a nonexistent character.

You could have Cool Mita (Cappie) (MiSide) or something aliased to Cappie (MiSide), which would make Cappie findable using Cool Mita.

Why did you format it like that instead of

create alias cool_mita_(miside) -> cappie_(miside)
remove alias cool_mita_(miside) -> cappie_(miside)
create alias cool_mita_(cappie)_(miside) -> cappie_(miside)

The way you're doing it with the mass update would result in all places which link the tag, such as wikis, to remain untouched.

Why do you believe that Cappie is not Cool Mita? Kind Mita refers to her as such the first time we meet her.
Her in-game character description is called Cap-wearing Mita, and the very first word in her description refers to her as Cappie, so going off just that, you'd be right.
Here's a link to a playthrough, timestamped.
Note how Kind Mita says: "It's high time I introduce you to Cool Mita! Seeing as she's got a cool cap, I just call her Cappie."
Later, in this same level, Kind Mita tells the player that Cool Mita, having died, will reboot, resetting to default settings.
Cappie also mentions having a COOL cap, and being cooler than Kind Mita.
I don't see any need to change anything about Cappie's tagging.

This is why there is so much confusion with the two and it is due to a misunderstanding during the translation. If I heard right it's due to the English translation being based on the Japanese translation instead of a direct translation from the original Russian(?). The original line apparently was to describe her as a "cool" person, but not to distinguish her as Cool Mita. This was later patched, as you can see in this more recent playthrough where she is no longer called Cool Mita. The issue of course is the bulk of players during the initial popularity rush would have played when she was still being called Cool Mita.

create alias cool_mita_(cappie)_(miside) -> cappie_(miside)

@Damian0358 I already tried writing this BUR before, but I kept getting an error message saying I couldn't create the alias with cool_mita_(cappie)_(miside) since cool_mita_(miside) was already aliased. However, I typed "alias" and "unalias" instead of "create alias" and "remove alias." Shouldn't these do the same thing? Why does one work while the other doesn't?

[...] like this collection of dev replies someone has compiled from the game's Discord which confirms as much.

Some relevant info from that link for those who don't want to alias the Cool Mita tag to Cappie.

  • Cool Mita is actually a tomboy who likes running, though even umeerai saying that much is way more than what the devs had planned for her. In fact, treat any and all mentions of other Mitas with names different from what is shown as the main cast's names as "world building," and let your imagination fill in the blanks because that's all we'll get
  • It has been repeated numerous times that THERE WILL NOT BE A MISIDE 2. They don't plan on letting the popularity get to them, they explicitly state they have more fun swapping from game to game, and even if they were planning on it they wouldn't want to work on it for another 5 years anyways. They will 100% be moving to a separate game with a different cast of characters after Peaceful Mode
