This tag is just a complete mish-mash of random horny posts with no real coherency.

I thought it'd be for the fetish where someone (usually a character with animal traits) is overcome with the urge to have sex, but this tag is just a complete mess that's no different from normal sex posts.

NSFW isn't my expertise, admittedly, but I feel like I know a bad tag when I see one. A shame, as this is the name of a fetish people would want to search for, but I'm just not seeing it here.

While I'm still interested in a tag for the fetish, this was definitely not it.

the state of this tag is a mess, but if we're going to kill it, we should really workshop a proper tag for the fetish it's meant to describe first. stuff like post #5522676, post #7057918 and post #10452640 (rating:e), or the whole "it's mating season" trope.

Excuse my lack of awareness but shouldn't the tag be gardened instead of deprecating it? There are just 8 pages of posts available I don't think that would be too difficult to do so. It appears that latter posts such as post #11301031 misuse the tag but they should be easy to identify and remove.

Deprecation prevents the tag from being added so it's easier to garden. 1480 posts is a pretty significant figure compared to other smaller tags that can usually be done in a few minutes and a lot of the bigger tags in the few hundreds or past one thousand posts don't usually get cleared promptly. Deprecation is right to do here, to figure out what tags to use instead or what tags don't exist that should be made from the remaining posts that don't have a suitable alternative.

Can't in heat itself be that tag? Just untag the posts that dilute it.

I think "mating season" would be a clearer name that's less likely to get tagged on random posts of horny characters.

Yeah, while "in heat" is the correct term, if people are going to use it as a synonym for basic "aroused", that's not a good idea.

I second "mating season" as a replacement tag. That feels just specific enough to not get diluted by all kinds of other horny posts.

We can probably alias in heat to "mating season" or whatever tag we end up with once it's emptied tho.

What would a deprecation wiki for this look like? Because if it's exactly the same as aroused then why aren't we aliasing it, or making an utility alias?

horny is already aliased to aroused, for example.

I think it's supposed to be a combination of aroused and feral instincts. In theory it was supposed to be used for animal girls acting like animals in estrus.

I'm gonna try preparing a favgroup of the fetish this tag was supposed to convey in order to get that deprecation wiki off the ground running. Might be a while, but that's definitely something I'll do.

Yes that is correct. While the situation is more complex than that (omegaverse has the trope too), "animal girl in heat" is by far the most common example of the trope, and the one I think most people would want to see too.

Alright, here's the BUR. I didn't get every post I think fit, but this should be enough to start with, and as the goal is deprecation I figured it'd get cleaned up eventually anyway if these BURs get approved. The main thing I looked for was either commentary notes this was happening (as context), or, and I consider this way more important, the image directly states or implies (ex: post #10139149) that the character is in estrus.

On that note, an alternate name for this new tag could very well be estrus if this one doesn't work out. It's the more scientific term, and is unlikely to be confused with random arousal.

Once this tag get made to shunt proper examples into, in heat can be safely deprecated.
