How does dark_skin interact with tanlines?

Well, the idea is that renaming tan to tan_skin would make it clearer that it refers to skin color rather than specifically having a tan.

You're putting far too much faith in our users' english proficiency. A sizable portion of our traffic (and of our most prolific uploaders) is from non-english-speaking countries, so a nuanced rename like this that relies on the reader being able to tell the difference between an uncommon noun (on the internet, anyway) and a far more widely used adjective would be completely hopeless.
Hell, even I, despite a decade of arguing in english on these forums, immediately mistook "tan skin" to mean "a skin that has a tan", instead of "a skin tan in color".

And this brings me to an additional problem: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tan_(color)#Variations_of_tan

"tan skin" is just gonna be a repeat of platinum blonde hair.

remove implication tanlines -> tan

Creating a BUR here for what should be the less controversial part of the plan.

Since tan is intended to refer to skin color, tanlines flat-out doesn't always imply it, due to the existence of characters with unusually-colored skin.

BUR #61411 is pending approval.

create alias tan -> dark_skin

At this point I would just suggest to just rip the tooth off, unimply tanlines to tan and alias tan to dark skin.
An additional problem is that "tan" and "tanlines" are also interchangeable in common parlace, so people would end up mistagging dark skin too, but if we're currently ending up with shit like post #4664462 under tan then we're not losing anything of value.

Second suggestion of the thread, now that tan is decoupled from tanlines.
