Artist, cosplayer, and voice actor

"Voice talent" has the same problem as "voice actor" in that it's not accurate, she's not an actual person who is providing their voice, she's a digital instrument. And it also doesn't address the problem of creating another qualifier so if we're going that route, might as well use "voicebank" which is the correct term.

Putting "voice" aside and going back to "voicebank", that's probably the optimal choice unless there's some inherent problem with creating another qualifier. I've only mentioned Hatsune Miku since she's the most common but I'm sure there are already plenty of posts with other voicebanks being used, like Kasane Teto (post #11003411, post #11120509), so there already exists a niche for this new qualifier to populate.

There's been a couple more posts with vocal synth audio lately so I'm finally putting the effort into making a tag.

I made favgroup #57812 and am currently filling it with any post I can find with vocal synth audio. I just finished going through posts tagged Vocaloid, so what's missing is UTAU, Synthesizer V, etc, as well as parodies of songs that don't have those base tags.

There's currently almost 300 posts in that group, ranging from song clips to original audio to memes/shitposts. I'm once again having a hard time deciding what category a tag for Hatsune Miku (voicebank) (and the half dozen other synths) would be:

  • Artist tag: In line with current policy of tagging voice actors, but vocal synths are more of instruments and it feels wrong to create a bunch of artist tags without any profiles. I suppose you could link to their official social media accounts but that risks users very likely mistagging second-party source posts.
  • Character tag: I considered this a more feasible alternative at first. But then it would likely implicate the base tag, which means we'd also have to include their affiliated copyright tags. I'm not keen on polluting Vocaloid with all the parodies that just happen to have sound clips from Vocaloid songs.
  • General tag: The safest option that avoids the problems above. Maybe a bit unorthodox though? I suppose it would make sense since it's tagging an element of the image, just an audio element instead of a visual one.
  • Meta tag: A generic vocal synth audio tag. Also a safe option and very easy to manage, but nigh on pointless in the context of this discussion.

So right now I'm leaning on creating a general tag.
