Stirrup footwear overlap/redundancy with stirrup legwear

A year ago a wiki was added to the tag and then it came to functionally mean stirrup legwear that stays below the knees. So now it is no longer being applied for those shoe designs as it originally was.

A heads up I sent a user about stirrup footwear usage before the wiki was created: Message

The wiki was created some time after I sent this clarification. It's creation never came to my attention until now.

This new tag definition causes an overlap with the already established stirrup legwear. Stirrup legwear already encompasses all lengths as long as the toes and heels are exposed and the sole of the foot can touch the ground.

I think it's noteworthy that Nahida (Genshin Impact) makes up 871 of the currently existing 1386 stirrup footwear posts.

I think the need for a distinction between different lengths of the exact same fashion/fetish legging design is superfluous at best.

And before elbow gloves are used as an example in the discussion, elbow gloves are visually removed enough from regular gloves to be noteworthy enough for their own tag (Gloves this long are uncommon and frankly unusual compared to regular pairs).

Additionally there used to be a tag for stirrup thighhighs, the very long variation, but that one is no longer in use.

To put it short, I think the wiki for stirrup footwear should be edited to have its original meaning and usage restored, or barring that aliasing stirrup footwear to stirrup legwear.

Putting aside the rest of the topic, footwear and legwear are considered different concepts here on Danbooru, so aliasing them together makes no sense even as a hypothetical resolution. No such alias exists in either direction either, active or not.

for the record, OP was saying that the tag was "originally" for shoes despite the first post ever tagged with the tag being socks. this was a definition he knew about despite the tag having no wiki. so basically the tag was firstly used to tag socks and the wiki was later written to say it's for socks, but OP insists that between these two events the tag was totally for shoes.

imo it should obviously be for shoes since it's footwear but i can't blame the guy who wrote the wiki for saying it was for socks

btw does that mean we're going to have stirrup socks or will socks get tagged with stirrup legwear?

That doesn't really change what I said. An alias shouldn't even be in consideration here as long as the tags are between footwear and legwear. It should be cleaned or deprecated instead if it's at the point of being unsalvageable, not aliased.

Socks are legwear, that's why stirrup socks is deleted.

It doesn't even fit as a backup solution. You would have to unalias it immediately so only the posts are moved over and then the stirrup footwear tag becomes available to use again. Footwear tags shouldn't be aliases to legwear tags or vice versa.

Nuke it then? Either way the stirrup legwear tag has its current use covered.

we just need to change the definition to toeless heel-less footwear and garden all the posts that don't have shoes. we don't need to nuke it. i'm sure someone (not me) will fix the wiki so we can move forward with that endeavor one day.
