"God Damn It!" Pools - What to do With Them?

Posted under General

So since the locking of topic #33413, I've been kinda sitting on this, but I suppose now is the time to finally open a topic dedicated to these things.

For a long long time, Danbooru has been host to various pools of characters notorious for being tricksters being complete dicks to other people, with the pools following a format of "God Damn It, X!". These include, but certainly aren't limited to:

And these are just the ones of copyrights I care about. There are many many more, dedicated to various boatgirl games and some Blue Archive character I will never ever give a damn about. Naturally, the sheer abundance of these implies that people actively desire the ability to find posts of characters like these being a dick. So in my opinion, the solution is to convert them all into a universal tag for this sort of shenaniganry.

One of my ideas in topic #33413 was trolling, but that kind of fell through, so that's not gonna work. As I was typing this opener up, I realized that one of the major defining points for a lot of these characters is that they are prone to being absolute tricksters, or at the very least nuisances, which tempts me to suggest trickster or prankster as a possible tag name. Though in cases like the Kyubey pool, it's just as likely to be used for situations where the character is making themself absolutely unwelcome or being a pervert (which is it's own tag), so...What do we want to do with them?

A part of me really wants to find a solution to these pools to make them easily taggable but it justs seems really hard to come up with a one glove fits all solution.

The only thing I can think of, as I said in forum #390978, is splitting between trolling and prank with maybe an umbrella tag for the two. Going through all these pools to manually garden them is kinda painful to think about.

The whole prank vs trolling split is stupid in the first place imo. Prank in common parlance refers to both trolling "spell ICUP" pranks AND the slapstick "whoopee cushion on a chair" pranks. Do people actually care about the difference between the two enough to warrant this split (and the resulting gardening) at all rather than just merging the two tags? The entire fact the existing pools freely mix the two together kind of suggests they wouldn't be bothered.

Even if the split is kept, the term prank should probably be changed to something like prank with object to avoid mistags like post #11060152. Then you could even use prank itself as the umbrella tag.

Sounds to me like the general solution people want is to garden the pools to fall under trolling or prank depending on the post. Which yes, sounds like a huge pain to me too. But sometimes we don't get an easy way out, and sometimes we have to hunker down and garden the pools.

I won't do anything yet tho. I feel like we need more discussion, and I'm too busy right now to undertake the effort of gardening them myself if need be.

I don't care about these tags enough to have an opinion, but I do think at the very least there should be a tag for physical pranks with objects (which the current prank tag serves well, and you did propose an alternate name at least for that with prank with object).

Feel free to try requesting a tag merge (ideally in a separate thread) to see how people feel about it.

I was only really worried how to handle the situation where nobody bothered to do the 'necessary' gardening resulting in the pool -> tag conversion not happening at all. If somebody actually will step up and do it, then that'd be ideal. I don't actually care about these tags either.

I get that. If there's one thing my time here has taught me, it's that there seems to always be someone down to garden stuff. So I'm not too worried if gardening is the route we go down.

Leave them alone. The pools work perfectly fine.

No~
