New tag: void_face

BUR #57923 is pending approval.

mass update favgroup:54349 -> void_face

Characters like Taokaka, Black Mage, Hyness, Raven Team Leader, or jawas- All of them possess the characteristic of undefined heads. I've made favgroup #54349 as a start for tagging characters fulfilling the criteria (Currently at 1,416 posts).

Other characters placed in this favgroup- Kaka Kittens, Suzukaka, Totokaka, Torakaka, Chachakaka, Orko.

Characters being considered- Magolor, Shadow (Kingdom Hearts), Veigar, Simirror.

Not gonna lie, pretty insane that we didn't have a tag for this until today.

How do we define the threshold between this and eyes_in_shadow, especially for characters like taokaka?

Ah. I have never seen this tag until today.

It looks like eyes in shadow and face in shadow overlap very hard with this new tag proposal. However, I believe a distinguishing trait might be that void face is an unmodified state of an established character. Which, potentially disqualifies Hyness? The present identifiers for Hyness include the black void eyes/face, but... My best concrete argument is that the example posts for the other two seem to give wiggle room for head shapes and distinguishable facial structure.

Not familiar with the Kingdom Hearts guy or Veigar, but I am an occasional Kirby uploader, so my first thought was "oh, so like Magolor?" upon seeing this BUR.

Needless to say: I'd be fine putting Magolor and Simirror in the tag. They have about the same amount of detail as the Black Mage (Final Fantasy) (s? I don't generally touch FF...) which qualify, so why not them too?

Should this apply to Shy Guy? Dimentio? The Heartless (kingdom hearts)/Shadow (Kingdom Hearts)? Be careful with that last one, look at post #8164074 for example and compare with post #8158723.

I know you mentioned the heartless in OP but I feel like it's worth nailing down.

Shy Guy- no, that is explicitly a mask.
Dimention- ditto.
Heartless- already for consideration, but yes valid reasons to be on the fence.

A mask with hollow things... We already tag that in Knight (Hollow Knight), no?

I love this kind of appearance; thank you for making the tag.

I noticed all the characters mentioned so far have a face. My first thought upon reading void face is characters with a head but no facial features at all:

Character whose alternate head is a snow globe but their default outfit has eyes

Do characters with a void for a head but no face count? E.g. their head or face is just some abstract galaxy. Probably don't want to lump in characters like Dante (Limbus Company) (entire head is a clock, not a helmet or mask, but it can feel like their face because it's permanently on fire)

Or is having a face a hard requirement? Because I'm not sure how to search for an empty hood look either. Unless that's just hole in face.

Personally, I think Tyral, Magicka wizard, and Nazgul are perfect fits- zero indication of what lies inside the hoods.
As for Paradox, I'm not so sure. Art looks like their "face" is a lava lamp. I'd have to argue I can see perfectly fine into their dome. I'm unsure how transparency should factor in.
Uhhh snow globe person is gonna need a more thorough look.
Ethereal/ asset #48059210 seems acceptable.

That seems reasonable. Paradox's dome may be fully black, but I think her and snow globe man are more like slimes or fishbowl helmet people.

Mysterio canonically wears a fishbowl helmet so maybe he shouldn't count, like a biker helmet or Halo visor. But I'd be fine if this counted as void face as it's meant to look very alien and otherworldly; helmet or mask isn't supposed to be your first thought.
The Arc Warden probably counts as his head looks more like a void of plasma/energy rather than any body tissue
Slimes don't count as the head is just translucent (and often empty)

Domes are seriously edge cases. I might be inclined to say that their physically tangible nature could qualify them for their own tag. Void dome? Empty dome? The glass casing around 100% of the head kinda changes it drastically.

Based off the examples of this tag thusfar, would you say a character needs to specifically have no visible hair, nose, or jawline, to qualify for void face? I noticed the lack of those features are consistent across pretty much all the characters mentioned so far. If so I think that would be a useful distinguisher to put in the wiki to set it apart from just face/eyes in shadow.

Aye, that's how I started this thread.

Needs to be more than that or else post #10811612 would apply. Or said another way, here's a good image to include as a non-example on the eventual wiki.
