Deprecate partially undressed

Posted under Tags

I don't particularly agree that those tags nail down this concept more specifically. Those tags are meant more for the absence of certain wear which doesn't necessarily imply a partially undressed context: for example, dress no_panties is a specific type of search when you want to get the "if only a bit of the dress was moved to the side" feeling but that could just be a function of the outfit or how the character intends to look and you would have to combine it with more tags if you want to truly funnel down and find half-worn dresses that also happen to feature no panties. You could make a case for partially unbuttoned but wearing shirts, jackets or coats without all buttons done up is also a certain type of "fit" that doesn't make a statement about the state of dress.

Partially undressed may be a messy tag but combining any of the above suggested tags turns what should be an easily searchable concept into a multi-tag search prone to false positives, I feel. I can't fully get behind preparing to erase this tag for that reason. It may be worth spending an evening or some trying to really figure out if this is unsalvageable and replaceable as a tag.

Imagine being the average user trying to search for post #6574823, and being told that you actually need to search for ten different tags at once...

A tag for someone who's not really wearing their clothes, but still has said clothes hanging off of them, is a good idea. However, partially_undressed is not that tag - as Popkornikus said, it's a dumping ground for almost any state of undress you could think of that isn't nude. Either we make it a parent tag for them all (which will encourage lazy users to not add anything more specific), or we deprecate it and filter the posts into the more specific tags, while creating one for the case in post #6574823. My vote is for the latter.

What do you propose as an alternative tag? As above, these tags aren't really "more specific" because they could either be used in the context of someone who is partially undressed and someone who has it as a natural state of their outfit. How do I distinctly search and differentiate characters that may match these "specific" tags between it being a part of the outfit design and characters who appear partially undressed?

From my personal perspective, I think the concept of the partially undressed tag is like "a piece of clothing is not being fully worn and therefore does not provide its intended full coverage, but it has also not been completely removed."

Based on the definition written on the tag’s wiki, it seems to cover two situations:

1. A single item of clothing (such as a skirt or shirt) is not being fully worn
2. Either the top or bottom of an outfit is entirely missing, resulting in “the outfit (as a set of clothings) not being fully worn”
________________________________________________________________________________

My main concern lies with the first situation.

Regarding this first meaning, if the partially undressed tag were to be deprecated but we still want to distinguish between posts where a piece of clothing (e.g., a skirt) is properly worn and those where it is partially removed, then the possible options, in my view, would be:

1. Subdivide partially undressed into more specific tags like partially_undressed_skirt, partially_undressed_shirt, partially_undressed_sweater, etc.
2. When clothing is not fully worn, certain body parts may be exposed (for example, a partially removed skirt may reveal the ass or thighs), and searches could rely on those body-part tags instead
________________________________________________________________________________

The issue with option 1 is that when clothing is in a partially removed state (especially when only a small part remains on the body), it is often wrinkled or hanging loosely, making it difficult to identify what type of clothing it originally was.
If the proposal is merely to create subcategories under partially undressed, but not delete the partially undressed tag itself, then the problem is manageable.
However, if partially undressed were to be removed entirely, only subcategories like partially_undressed_skirt, partially_undressed_shirt, partially_undressed_sweater remain, it would force many difficult classification decisions, requiring people to determine what type of clothing each loose, crumpled, possibly trapped-under or wrapped-around-the-body garment actually is.

________________________________________________________________________________

As for option 2, the original design of the clothing, incidental states, and even the character’s pose and the view angle can all significantly interfere with search results.

Taking the example of a partially removed skirt.
If I want to find such posts without using partially undressed, I might search for "skirt + ass,” but that would fail for posts where the character is facing the viewer.
If I use "skirt + thighs,” it would include many posts featuring miniskirts.
If I use “skirt_pull,” it would not find posts where the character is lying down and the skirt is loosened (rather than pulled down), causing exposure.
If I use “skirt + unbuttoned,” it would also include posts where the character is wearing a skirt but has unbuttoned a shirt or jacket.

Overall, it is difficult to see how this would make searching easier or produce clearer and more consistent results.

Additionally, we must consider users who cannot use many tags in their searches.
If someone in Member level is looking for partially_undressed posts of a specific character or artist, then they would only have one tag available to define the character’s clothing state.

In conclusion, unless a solution emerges that can address all of these issues in a unified way, I personally have reservations about removing the partially undressed tag.
