I'm going to go with the easy solution for now and convert the song tags to copyrights.

It's hard to say that some should be chartags and some should be copyright tags given that they're based on music videos and the character could be missing from fanart of it. We didn't do it with vocaloid so I think it's fine to give Idolmaster the same treatment.

Love Live! should probably get the same treatment.

I don't think we need to change the qualifier: compare the list of _(vocaloid) tags to the list of _(song) tags.

Noticed this from topic #35619, but I actually really hate this. Gentags work perfectly fine for idol copyrights, and costume tags also aren't really needed. The post volume is basically always very low (see here), and importantly they aren't an eyesore in the tag list.

This last point isn't really as much of a concern with Vocaloid since they get used with different copyrights a lot, aren't implied, and the Vocaloid tag is basically all there is.
Compared to this, Love Live! or by extension even BanG Dream!, it's just a bunch of extra noise and implications to copytags that already have one or more implications by default (Gakuen Idolmaster -> Idolmaster, Link! Like! Love Live! -> Love Live!, BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! -> BanG Dream! to name a few common ones). The comparison to Vocaloid just doesn't make sense from practical point of view, and neither does making these tags copytags, even if it is *technically* correct.

Look at the wiki for hanami_saki and tell me those aren't just "costumes but in blue". Copyrights was the compromise to avoid losing info about posts that depict other stuff in the songs themselves. It makes no sense to have these as gentags.

If we are accepting a compromise anyway, why not choose the less messy one, which doesn't lead to a mess of implications just for the sake of it (or tags that aren't implied while they look like they should be). I don't see how keeping them general is specifically worse than the mess introduced by making them copytags.

Because these are copyright tags cosplaying as general tags. They are tags for a specific piece of media (a song), which is released as part of a bigger franchise (idolmaster/LL), and contain specific skins for characters from the franchise.
It's not "less messy" to open a tag list, look at the list of gentags, and see random copyrights in there. It's stupid. It's even worse with shit like snow halation or my_own_fairy-tale where you can't even tell that the post is from a song unless you go check the tag list one by one to find the one that's masquerading as a gentag.

Is this specifically really a problem? If you're going to have a tag for a costume/song, it has to go *somewhere*. Why is it being under copyright so much worse?

It just doesn't sit right with me to have them here (whichever implication depth would be used, or none at all I guess), it takes up extra space for information that isn't terribly high priority (less so than the actual copyright).

I guess I might oppose it less if there was some way to only display part of implied chartags, like hiding the qualifier, but even then I'm not sure.

These are copyrights. They should not be hidden away in the sea of blue tags. It should be immediate where a costume or character is from, or if it's tagged at all.
