dark skin vs. tan

Posted under Tags

hey, i noticed the "don't use with tan" clause in dark-skinned male was added by @Obstkuchen apparently without any discussion. there is no similar clause in dark-skinned female.

personally i think we should remove it. there is no visual difference between dark skin and tan. we also have very dark skin if we wanted really dark-skinned characters. and we also have lots of tanned gyaru and ganguro that are probably tagged with dark skin.

the dark skin wiki also says

Characters usually have this skintone naturally, but sometimes have dark skin due to a tan, alternate coloring, etc.

Hey hey, it’s me. I asked about the definition and tagging requirements for dark skin before in the general thread. To paraphrase, it’s not about what the character is known to be, like tanned or having dark skin, but about how they actually look in the image. For example, this was the actual example I asked about, if a dark-skinned character appears with lighter skin in a particular image, you wouldn’t tag that image as “dark skin.”
From what I understood, if a gyaru is completely tanned and has no lighter skin showing, she should be tagged as dark skin, not “tanned.” So, “tanned” and “dark skin” really shouldn’t be used together for the same character. A tan only makes sense if there’s a naturally lighter skin tone visible that’s been darkened by the sun, you need that contrast for it to be noticeable.
If the skin looks consistently dark with no lighter baseline, it’s just dark skin, not a tan. Using both tags at the same time can be confusing since they describe different things.

Also hasn't someone changed it already back a while ago? Not that I agree with that.
