No, this isn't a late April Fools joke.
This is a meme tag that has, in my opinion, overstayed its welcome and gotten diluted to the point of uselessness.

Its recent usage is flooded by regular bara or muscular male pics (post #11002355, post #10976030).
Meanwhile, its older usage is that of a meme for pics that make you feel gay due to attractive males (post #42529, post #155622), muscular men (post #50042, post #515421) or even other manly activities like rape (post #83196), being a popular male character (post #233533, post #282099, post #434740), or being heterosexual? (post #67766).
Man, a lot of the older pics are Kamina. Understandable.

For posts with unusual or comedic manliness we already have manlification.
I'll do a quick check of the tag to catch any of those that would be lost with the nuke.

This tag was intended to be for the kind of comedic manly behavior that Armstrong from FMA exhibits: post #1954395, post #1450958, etc. We would need a tag for comedic/overly displayed manliness that is not manlification if this has to go, but I agree that the tag has become pointless by itself.

I think the "meme" usage can be objectively tagged but I'm not going to garden it and it has been diluted to the point where it's largely interchangeable with muscular male.

Compare it to another older meme tag fabulous and the difference is pretty stark.

Alternative for properly cleaning up the tag before putting it down.

Can't we rename the tag to something along the lines of manly trope or something.

I was under the impression that it could also be used for posts like post #4884329 where an otherwise female character is drawn with an absurdly muscular body. Those posts used to be randomly tagged Bara before so I'd be worried if there isn't something obvious to tag them under.

In case we can't think of anything better, TV Tropes uses testosterone poisoning for this kind of thing.

I don't disagree with the tag being polluted with mistagged posts, but I also dislike the idea of nuking the tag since for me at least it carries an appeal of the kind of badass imagery that makes my testosterone levels spike by just looking at it which I personally would like to search for, like as a way to pump myself up for a workout. I can't really get the same thing just searching for muscular male, so I'd rather fix this tag than get rid of it.

I like this solution personally, I think "manly" is too broad and lends itself to mistags. Maybe "gar" could be alright but I don't know how many people still remember when that was relevant. I think the most concise and to the point tag name for what manly is supposed to be would be something like badass. I think most people can understand what a dude being "badass" looks like compared to simply being ripped, and it seems like this sort of wording seems to work with fabulous where it applies more to actions shown rather than simply physical build.

Now that we have more muscular than canon as consequence of forum #436838, it might be worth to start thinking about the other different concepts that this tag could be split into. manlification, the "yaoified" yuri umamusume kind of thing where girls are drawn as manlier or with sharper chins for no reason (post #10275440, this kind of markedly chinese artstyle), comedic manliness of already manly men, etc.
