Tagging that a costume is official is inferior to just having a tag for the costume. But what? Is there going to be a tag for every DLC costume, fighting game alt, and anime episode outfit now?
At least it's not quite the shitshow that (unofficial) alternate costume is. The tag you use when you don't recognise something in the image, and exists just to pretend you can search default costumes.
I always felt the official_alternate_* tags were redundant for all the various Hatsune Miku designs. They should really only be used when said designs are themselves wearing alternate costumes (e.g post #10635561, post #10578481) If the official_alternate_* tags are mutually exclusive with existing character tags, I'll probably make a BUR to remove them when I have time.

I think alternate hair length should also be split into alternate hair length (shorter) and alternate hair length (longer), like we did with alternate breast size (larger) and alternate breast size (smaller) (and you can compare the two tags' size to see why).
This, in turn, should make it obvious why official alternate hair length should fall under alternate hair length. If I'm searching for Ayanami Rei for pics where she has long hair, I don't care that post #10926611 is an official hairstyle. It's still something I'd always want included.

As above. Maybe this is the easiest option.
Right now if you want to search for, say, a character with a bobcut having slightly longer hair, it's completely impossible, due to our inconsistency with using medium hair vs long hair vs short hair.
These tags are also heavily skewed towards the more popular version: one only needs to look at the size difference between alternate breast size (larger) and alternate breast size (smaller) to know why it was a bad idea to group it all together.
The tag can be further emptied with BURs targeting popular characters after this goes through.

It's a shame these tags came to be dominated by vtubers and gachas with different outfits that the character can switch/be switched between at will.
These official alternate x tags always used to be a really good way of finding characters who canonically changed their appearance over the course of the series (as opposed to artists randomly deciding to draw what they would look like with a different appearance). Hair length was one of the best ones for this. For example, Katou Megumi has a bunch of official alternate hair length images because she starts the series with a very iconic look involving a short bob cut, then spends half the series gradually growing it out before cutting it short again. Meanwhile, Rem (Re:Zero) has loads of pictures with alternate hair length but just because it became a trend to draw her with long hair, so they're not official alternate hair length.
