Lanchester SMG is a copy of the MP28

create alias lanchester_smg -> mp28

The Lanchester is essentially the British copy of the German MP28 submachine gun, but with minor technical improvements.

I know the MP28 is an improvement of the earlier MP18, with added fire selector. However I think both models should stay separate instead of being merged into MP18. Since the MP18 is usually depicted with a snail-shaped drum mag, while the MP28 isn't.

Reference images

  • Lanchester SMG : The only noticeable things in few produced models is the AK-style charging handle shape and a bayonet lug (post #6181440).
  • MP28 : Only accepts straight mags, and the mag well is not slanted. Notice the indentation for fire selector switch above the trigger group as well.
  • MP18 : No fire selector. Details on its slanted mag well.

The same argument could be made about the Type 56 assault rifle versus the AK-47, or any number of extremely-similar AR-15-pattern weapons. At least with the Lanchester or MP-28 it's fairly easy to tell via image context which one should be tagged, as one is British and the other German. In addition, the Lanchester specifically is the signature weapon of Mika (Blue Archive), and currently sits at over 400 posts while the MP-28 has less than 20.

Danbooru is wildly inconsistent about applying granularity to weapons versus kludging together separate weapons as "close enough" (See recoilless rifle being aliased to rocket launcher despite being completely different systems). Is there any driving purpose for this alias besides it being "TeChNiCaLlY cOrReCt"?

I really don't see the difference here, especially given that Mika's gun is not markably more similar to a lanchester smg than a mp28.

Is post #1301082 and post #1905518 really two different tags that deserve to be tagged separately? What's the difference between post #1301082 and post #5626689 that sets them apart?

I vote against his mostly because If one tag had to be aliased, it should be MP28 into Lancaster.

I don't think it really matters which came first. MP28 has 17 tags and has almost no culture relevance.

The lanchester smg is specifically Mika's weapon and for most users, that's what they're going to see and tag.

well my personal opinion says that it should be left as be because they are technically two different weapons, by danbooru opinion is IF we had to alias that it should be mp28 into lanchester, and that that sets precident for other weapon variants like all the AK tags that exist
