create alias twitter_username -> x_(website)_username

For formality reasons. Now that Twitter is now referred to more properly as X here, I suppose we do the same with some tags here, starting with this one.

Worst tag name

According to some user at BlueSky: https://bsky.app/profile/aguywhotweets.bsky.social/post/3ly3tjxk3jc27

"The fact that so many still call Twitter by its real name but have forgotten that the posts are called tweets, which is the whole f***ing reason why the site is called Twitter, shows the damage Elon [an incompetent megalomaniac tech idiot who is part of the Apartheid South African PayPal gang] has done to the brand and why is worthless and its all because he likes a single letter."

No; the posts aren't officially called Tweets; they're called posts. That's just the users changing the name they use for the platform while forgetting to change the other.

It's named Twitter after Flickr, and they didn't start calling them Tweets until 2008, two years after launch.

But that's completely missing the point of the Bluesky post. From the perspective of the average Twitter user, those who had been using the site since after 2008, posts were officially called Tweets until they weren't due to the X rename. So if you're calling it Twitter you should be calling them Tweets, but folks are forgetting, both because of the repeated exposure to 'post' and 'repost' on Twitter and because Bluesky uses 'post' and 'repost' as well because you can't do a witty 'post' name alternative like you could with Twitter and tweets.

Being pedantic about when they began calling them tweets is bad, doing so when they were called that for over 15 years is even worse.

yeah it's mostly off-topic anyway

The post is wrong in several places, though, so it makes a poor point. "So many" call Twitter "X". Do they mean most? "Posts are called Tweets." By whom? Most people? Maybe it's different people calling it X and different people calling them Tweets. And then the "why the site is called Twitter" part is just wrong.

doing so when they were called that for over 15 years is even worse.

Sure; but the user should say it like it is and not make shit up. And if the platform changed the name, it changed the name. Some things that have been around for 15 years don't need to stay that way. Like RuneScape keeping an ugly blue UI instead of its original brown, and a ton of predatory microtransactions.

Danbooru called it an upload limit for some 15 years, but it's a post limit now.

It's officially just a "Quote" (per the button) or a quote post, which is short enough it doesn't really need to be abbreviated. The how-to documentation even still says the button says "Repost as Quote" but now it just says "Quote".

i wish we kept deadnaming twitter tbqh. booo tomatoes at the changelog

Inherently the worst from the recent changelog, it is the reason why long-time twitter users including myself still refer to as Twitter itself because of that Apartheid South African billionare tech idiot bought Twitter in 2022 then next year, rebranded to just one letter that tech idiot likes.

Nowadays, Twitter is now a shell of its former self, it is now filled with hate speech on the feed, many people are now leaving that damned platform because of this.

Twitter's name is gone, but not forgotten. We should keep deadnaming twitter, or danbooru's twitter account will stop posting on that damned platform and migrate to Bluesky.

it's not even that i disagree with you, but i don't see how this is relevant to the thread.

They're just trying to get around the fact that the topic they made for complaining was locked. If they actually cared about this from a practical standpoint, they would be focusing less on Elon and more on actual numbers.

The admins (more specifically evazion) are in the best position to decide which platform is the best one to use. Maybe one day we will move to Bluesky, but if we do, it won't be because of who owns the sites.
