character badge implication

BUR #54763 has been rejected.

create implication character_badge -> button_badge

I think that it should still imply button badge instead. While button badges are normally round, I don't think that always has to be the case. I feel that the function of the badge tag is also very different from the function of the button badge tag.

An emblem that signifies status, rank, membership, affiliation, etc. Usually made of plastic, metal, or cloth. An example is a police badge.

- From the badge wiki. This tag serves a purpose that doesn't align with the first BUR, in my opinion.

post #6300434 are commonly called enamel pin-back badges, which is mentioned on the wiki for button badge. It’s also aliased with can badge, and I own non-round ones officially marketed as such (towards the bottom).

Button badges and enamel pins are made very differently. Even if a button badge can have "different" shapes those shapes are generally going to be fairly simple because of the manufacturing process. They're composed of a front metal plate which an image/photo is stretched over and the edges then wrap around the front plate and then locked in place using a mold that crimps the front plate to a separate backplate that is commonly made either of metal or plastic. You'll find shapes other than the common circle like squares or hearts, but the process isn't going to allow to have too complex of a shape like say a full character cutout (example) you can find with enamel pins.

At its simplest an enamel pin is simply a metal plate cut into a specific shape with a pin affixed to the back side and an enamel paint applied to the front of the metal plate to create an image. More commonly it'll have the image cast into the metal plate with metal ridges forming the divisions between shapes and creating easy to paint troughs. The manufacturing process means you're not going to be able to have as detailed images when compared to a button badge that can use prints and photos for their images.
