VCR GTA, MadTown, and NewTown

VCR GTA and MadTown GTA are Grand Theft Auto V roleplay server events for Japanese-speaking streamers, run jointly by Vaultroom and Crazy Raccoon (hence VCR).

I made these two different tags for them under the assumption that they were two different things. It's tough to research as there's little information in English but they have different names so they must be different, right? Well now they're doing NewTown and it seems to be yet more of the same so I'm coming to think there never was a meaningful distinction.

VCR GTA ran for three separate instances and MadTown for two, each one with different versions of the characters, different storylines, and different costumes. In an ideal world it would be nice to have separate tags for each but identifying them when they aren't clearly labelled can take niche knowledge from long streams, only bits and pieces of which ever get translated, and some of which are already deleted. I definitely couldn't do it all myself. So unless anyone objects and can help garden that, it's probably best to just merge all this stuff into one tag going forwards.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but after reviewing this proposal again, it sounds like the biggest obstacle is the language barrier and lack of translated clips?

If that is the case, then I would like to retract my support for this BUR.

I am personally an avid realtime viewer of a few participants, and am confident I can help identify pieces that need clarification in English. I also watch Japanese compilations made by fans and official channels.

Since there are only so many pieces of art related to these events that make it to this site (under 300 pieces of art), I think a few other savvy users and I could keep the tags straight.

I believe that vcr_gta should remain its own tag, and MADTOWN should continue to have its own. Since NEWTOWN is still... well, new, I think it's a good idea to keep that tag up for when I inevitably upload art for that.

I disagree with your assertion that "there is no meaningful distinction."

- Factions, especially gangs, are server-specific and change each time. (i.e. Lycoris is the red gang in MADTOWN(b), but that gang does not exist in previous or following servers.)

- Major events are well-known by viewers--and art is often specifically tagged, especially on Pixiv and Twitter. These events are significant enough and warrant distinction
- (i.e. Kuzuha and Tooko's interactions from VCRGTA3)

TL;DR: I'm a huge nerd for these events specifically and I believe I can keep these tags straight as a Japanese speaker and reader.

What I dislike about the current state of the tags (which I caused, sorry) is that it's a weird middleground. We have two tags but five different storylines jammed together in them so we can't search for a specific one.

If you think it would be manageable, maybe we can turn it into something more useful like this:

  • VCR GTA
    • VCR GTA 1
    • VCR GTA 2
    • VCR GTA 3
    • MadTown GTA Beta
    • MadTown GTA
    • NewTown GTA

Or this:

  • VCR GTA
    • VCR GTA 1
    • VCR GTA 2
    • VCR GTA 3
  • MadTown GTA
    • MadTown GTA Beta
    • MadTown GTA (dunno what to call this one)
  • NewTown GTA

Then uploaders who don't know which specific tag to use can just use the parent tag and they'll get sorted occasionally by the people browsing them, hopefully.
