nuke pool:26893

pool #26893: Stella Sora - YuruSora [Japanese version] (Official)

We don't need two pools for the same comic. We could nuke the EN pool instead, but since this is an English speaking site, it makes more sense to maintain readability of the EN version. I would also argue for swapping the parenting (currently EN is parented to JP) but it doesn't affect readability, it just looks weird if the EN version is the one being pooled.

I'm also pretty sure we have more of these double pools, but I'm starting with just this one because I stumbled across it just now.

Wait, what's the problem with having two pools for the same comic when the language is different?

The better question is what purpose does having multiple essentially identical pools serve? In any other situation we would just parent them, it's literally the reason parenting exists, not make multiple pools. It's redundant.

The point of putting comics into pools is to make them easier to read. Users aren't going to read both comics, it's the exact same comic. Either add notes to the JP version so they can read that one, or just parent the JP comics to the EN ones and let users read that one.

So if this pool is nuked and I want to browse the comic in the original language, I'd have to open each post separately and then open the parent post instead of just going to next or previous page? Now that's peak comic reading experience.

I think the parent should be in the language of its country of origin. We prefer the original language because it facilitates our translation notes, so that (ideally) the translation is a community effort that can easily be edited if there's a mistake. We can't do that with hard translations. We also have to consider that some languages may introduce localization changes (to be fair, we also do this if necessary, but again, we can edit the notes to correct it if it goes too far) and we can't be sure if they're overreaching unless we have access to the original language. Whether you think they're minor or a reasonable change, it still means the two comics are not exactly the same.

Now in this case, Stella Sora is developed by Yostar, a Chinese company, so I think it's fine to switch the parenting until we get the Chinese version or unless there is evidence that the English version was translated from the Japanese version. But I don't think we should make it so it's only easy to navigate one of the comics nor should we favor English above all else without consideration of the country of origin or possible localization changes simply because this is an English-speaking site.
