Virtual Youtuber Fan Mascot "species" tag

Posted under Tags

BUR #51307 has been rejected.

mass update ebi-chan_(gawr_gura) -> virtual_youtuber_fan_mascot
mass update deadbeat_(mori_calliope) -> virtual_youtuber_fan_mascot
mass update takodachi_(ninomae_ina'nis) -> virtual_youtuber_fan_mascot
mass update investigator_(watson_amelia) -> virtual_youtuber_fan_mascot
mass update kfp_employee_(takanashi_kiara) -> virtual_youtuber_fan_mascot
create implication virtual_youtuber_mascot -> virtual_youtuber

At the moment, searching for posts of a specific Vtuber with or without their fan mascot is fairly straightforward.
gawr_gura ebi-chan_(gawr_gura) / gawr_gura -ebi-chan_(gawr_gura)

This goes off the rails very fast the moment you are searching for two Vtubers:
gawr_gura watson_amelia ebi-chan_(gawr_gura) investigator_(watson_amelia) / gawr_gura watson_amelia -ebi-chan_(gawr_gura) -investigator_(watson_amelia)

And with three Vtubers ... you get the point.

Fan mascots are currently stuffed under the virtual youtuber tag

This tag includes anything directly related to VTubers, including parodies, references, fictional VTubers, concept art of unreleased VTubers, VTuber mascots, and VTuber agency staff members.

but this tag is also for a number of other things which makes this tag fairly useless in this context.

Excluding them using other tags like -shrimp in the case of ebi-chan_(gawr_gura) doesn't work either because mascots range from simple animals, to clocks, disembodied heads, and whatever this thing is. Even more so if the fan is depicted as a normal, usually male, human with a mask like in post #5247338 (NSFW)

This tag would also enable to easily find posts like

where the mascots are the focus by searching virtual_youtuber_fan_mascot no_humans

The current BUR only contains the mascots of holomyth. If this passes I'll write up BURs for the other Gens, though I might need some help with fan mascots of virtual youtubers outside of Hololive. Especially Indie Virtual Youtubers.

I can't name any counterexamples but this concept doesn't seem tied to VTubers.

Minecraft YouTube has Ph1LzA's chat, and Ranboo's particles are occasionally associated with their earlier MCYT persona (but are more commonly a typical VTuber fan mascot). I know there are other examples within that fandom space of people personifying fan audiences, but I can't think of any other examples that actually get drawn consistently.

I can't think of any examples outside of the realm of streaming though and VTubers are definitely the most common situation where this happens.

What Gabe is proposing is making a "virtual_youtuber mascot" tag. .

Mascots and depictions of fans are two things that I'd prefer to keep seperate because of what they represent.
Going back to my earlier fuck up example; Bloop_(Gawr Gura) would absolutely be a mascot, but not Ebi-chan (Gawr Gura).

The second thing is the current usage of the mascot tag where its usage is similar to creature resulting in it only being used on cutesy / chibi characters.
One example of that being deadbeat_(mori_calliope) mascot with a grand total of zero active posts.

i do believe the manjuu is a fan self-insert in that case tho

No it isn't. The Manjuu are official mascots for the series and Manjuu abuse is a running gag in the series, often shown in the official art of various characters. It may be intended for people to project themselves into, but calling it a fan self-insert is just plain wrong.

That's honestly a pretty strange example since deadbeats seem like they'd easily fall into the cutesy / chibi category.

If you want to keep them seperate, why is your proposed tag virtual_youtuber_mascot then? That's just going to inspire people to tag mascot alongside that tag.

In all honesty: skill issue.

I've tried several drafts like virtual_youtuber_fan / virtual_youtuber_fan_representation / virtual_youtuber_fan_reference and didn't like any of them for being even more vague or a hopeless mouth full.

Mascot is the current description in the virtual youtuber wiki do I decided to just settle on that for the moment.

Again, I'm open to a better name.

Why not just keep it as is? "mascots virtual_youtuber"? I really don't see why we need a tag for fan representations when mascots are more than enough
