After doing searches on breasts tags there's a lot of discussion but seems to be no closure.
Is there any reason to keep the 'breasts' tag? There's over 100k images tagged as such; it really isn't helpful as a search filter. It's like adding a female tag to all images with girls in them, unnecessarily redundant and all girls have them (obviously in varying sizes)
If I'm doing a search that includes breasts as a parameter, flat_chest or large_breasts will usually filter out the images I want (or don't wont) to show up in my search; "breast' used in a search won't yield anything useful.
It'd help if there were some guidelines on proper use of the tags in terms of sizes. Many that are large should be huge, and many that are huge should be gigantic. While its all relative, it seems that guys have drastically different ideas on what large/huge breast are than us girls do.

How would you use it in a negative search? I frequently use them as well, though except in very narrow circumstances I wasn't able to come up with many ways to use it. Only kinds of things that came to mind were if you were doing a search like watarase_jun +swimsuit -breasts Usually the flat_chest tag seems more helpful than a -breasts.
As you've said its helpful to you, I'm (honestly) interested in how? Save extreme cases I can't see the connection.
You have to remember that Danbooru is not a hentai site, moreover not all posts feature female characters. Since breasts is only meant to be uses when the breasts are exposed or otherwise a central focus of the image, -breasts can be used to find less sexualized images.
I'd be against killing the tag despite it's ubiquity, the tag still adds information to the posts it appears on, and there is no real good reason to destroy that information.
I understand (and frequently use) negative searches, and how to do them. Am more interested in using -breast as a negative search term, to me it doesn't seem useful. Not here to argue at all, at this point really curious into how people are using that tag then.

If people used 'breasts' correctly in the manner you speak (which is the proper tag definition anyways, or close to it) it would be extremely useful, much like the legs tag. To often the tag gets applied blindly, if the girl has breasts, tag it with breasts; and not the way its meant to be.
Although it's true all females have breasts in some form or shape, they aren't always prominent in an image.The tag is used when they are prominent. This is the same reason most post featuring humanoids with arms aren't tagged arms even though almost all humans have had two arms at some point.

Ah, sorry for misunderstanding. My mistake.
But anyway, the breasts tag is not for every image that has them - just ones that put a particular emphasis on them (and there are a LOT of those).
So, if one were to a search with -breasts as one of the terms, the results would have a significantly less amount of sexual content in them. And there are people out there who aren't inclined towards sexual content, and exclusively enjoy "decent" or innocent images. I'm sure doing a search excluding that tag -- or even blacklisting it -- would be useful for those types of people (I actually know a couple of people like that, BTW).
Plus, it'd also be nice being able to look at posts that don't have tits in them for a change, too.

Yeah, agreed. I hate when I see an image with one of the breast tags even though there's no particular focus on them at all and they're completely concealed with clothing.

That pretty much sums up most of my reasoning for the suggestion. Though frequently it can be annoying to see images with three dozen tags that have stuff like the hair/eye color, hair length, clothes color, shoe size or other specific tags those have come in useful when looking for a very specific image of a certain character. When used correctly its very helpful, alas this one is so far off the mark (generally) since most people don't understand tagging body doesn't encompass what's showing, but rather what the images focus/highlight is.
