A Consistent Standard For Separating Disney Adaptation Copyrights from their Original Copyrights

Wouldn't it just be easier to have _(disney) as the qualifier? We already have tags with both copyrights and characters with that as a qualifier for instance snow_white_(disney) and peter_pan_(disney).

Given the original stories are public domain works and there are hundreds of adaptations for some of them just having the date doesn't exactly tell you it's the Disney version at a glance.

That’s how Fate’s are done

BUR #39939 has been approved by @nonamethanks.

mass update ~thumbelina ~thumbelina_(character) -> andersen's_fairy_tales
rename thumbelina_(character) -> thumbelina_(andersen)
category thumbelina -> character
rename thumbelina -> thumbelina_(andersen)

Alright, this isn't exactly Disney, but whatever. This is just dealing with the fairy tale tags, but I wonder - do we even need Thumbelina (Thumbelina (1994))? Doing thumbelina_(1994) thumbelina_(andersen) could work just as efficiently.

I'm currently contemplating about Snow White, Snow White (Grimm), and Queen (Snow White). Each of these tags have corresponding Disney counterparts in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Snow White (Disney), and Queen Grimhilde, but each are subject to mistagging which results in what clean division there may be to be shattered, most commonly with the copyrights and queens.

I'd try and use the precedent established with Andersen's Fairy Tales to try and get rid of the Snow White copytag entirely in favor of Grimm's Fairy Tales and go from there, but the problem character here is the Queen. We can't change her tag to queen_(grimm) because there's several queens in their fairy tales, and evil_queen_(grimm) is also unworkable because there's more than one Evil Queen due to the Six Servants. Unless we want to go the Dwarf (Grimm) route and generalize anyway, of course (as that tag is mainly used for Snow White, but seems to not be exclusive to those dwarves).

More broadly, I think we need to have a discussion on what to do with Grimm's Fairy Tales as a tag. It was created 14 years ago per forum #61828, but seems to have been almost entirely avoided as a copytag in favor of more narrow fairy tale copytags, ala Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. As it currently stands, it seems to have no practical use whatsoever, but I think that we can solve some of our problems by getting rid of them and having them use the Grimm copytag instead.

But that in turn can cause its own problems. For example, Cinderella has an extended cast with Lady Tremaine, Anastasia Tremaine, Drizella Tremaine (and the Fairy Godmother, but she's more generic), so if we flattened it into Grimm's Fairy Tales, we'd have to have a character list in the wiki to ensure they remained searchable. Not to mention that, while we associate Cinderella (and Sleeping Beauty) with Grimm, their versions of the story aren't the only ones.

mass update sleeping_beauty -aurora_(disney) -maleficent -phillip_(disney) -diablo_(disney) -> copy:sleeping_beauty_(fairy_tale)
create alias sleeping_beauty -> sleeping_beauty_(disney)
remove alias sleeping_beauty -> sleeping_beauty_(disney)

While we contemplate on what to do with Cinderella though, we can try a seperation experiment with Sleeping Beauty. The mass update here will functionally separate the non-Disney version of the character from the Disney version, allowing the copytag left to become the copytag for the Disney version. Whether or not the separated copytag will continue to exist or be folded into a broader fairy tale copytag like Grimm's we can decide later.

BUR #40635 has been rejected.

create alias little_red_riding_hood -> little_red_riding_hood_(fairy_tale)
remove alias little_red_riding_hood -> little_red_riding_hood_(fairy_tale)
category little_red_riding_hood -> character
create alias little_red_riding_hood_(grimm) -> little_red_riding_hood

Generalizing fairy tale versions to Grimm though isn't unique to these stories though. Little Red Riding Hood (Grimm) is Red's chartag, but we have tons of older pre-Grimm tellings of the story, so following up on forum #137759, if we don't want to do Grimm generalizations, we got to deal with that chartag. The (fairy_tale) isn't too common, but it does exist, giving us the perfect venue for the copytag. This and the Sleeping Beauty BUR being approved gives us the option to use that qualifier for copytag separation purposes.

The transliteration error needs to be fixed. Dornröschen should be dornroeschen here.

Updated for approval, though this reminds me about how German transliteration isn't actually consistent per discussion in topic #30058. If you want to argue for consistent transliteration of German characters like that, I would recommend you make a thread dedicated on the matter.
