Krile (FFXIV) Tag Rename

Posted under Tags

BUR #29071 has been rejected.

rename krile_mayer_baldesion_(ff14) -> krile_maya_baldesion
create alias krile_mayer_baldesion_(ff5) -> krile_mayer_baldesion
remove alias krile_mayer_baldesion_(ff5) -> krile_mayer_baldesion

FFXIV Krile's middle name is translated as Maya, not Mayer, as seen (FFXIV lv 100 spoilers) here (taken from this reddit post).

With this reveal (I think people just assumed FFXIV Krile's middle name was Mayer the whole time, I couldn't find it in the game script), I was hoping to unqualify both Kriles (Not to mention FF5 Krile already has the unqualified tag as an alias).

I can't rename FF5 Krile since she has more than 200 posts, and I'm unsure as how to get rid of the qualified alias (can nuke be used in this situation??).

Or maybe FF14 Krile should keep her current tag as an alias. I don't think it's needed but I want to know what everyone else thinks >_<;;

If a tag is too large for an actual rename, you can effectively rename it by creating an alias to the new tag, then deleting the alias. You can do them in the same BUR. Everything will get moved over to the new tag, and the old tag will get auto-pruned for being empty.

Oh, cool! but which BUR command do I use? is it nuke, or is there something I'm not seeing?

This is not much of a spoiler, it's more of a "oh cool" moment. I guess they wanted an in-game reason for her to have the same name as her namesake from FF5 but still make it different.

The issue I have with this is that people who haven't played FFXIV or haven't yet reached that moment won't be able to distinguish between the characters: you search for "krile baldesion" and see two different characters in the autocomplete that have two letters of difference in the middle name. That's pretty confusing to me. I'd still keep the qualifiers because of that.

That's fair, but my issue is that the name "Krile Mayer Baldesion" for FFXIV Krile is a form of misinformation spun up by the fandom, I don't want it as a tag for her.

Maybe the tag names could be krile_mayer_baldesion_(ff5) and krile_baldesion_(ff14)?

EDIT:

Hours later I came to another conclusion. Did you mean like krile_maya_baldesion_(ff14) as a main tag and krile_maya_baldesion as an alias, like how FF5 krile has her tags set up?

I had a look in Encyclopedia Eorzia (archive 2021), she's not listed there with a middle name either so it does appear to be an import from her namesake. In this case it should probably be a rename to remove mayer from the ff14 tag, then alias krile_baldesion_(ff14) into krile_maya_baldesion.
krile_mayer_baldesion_(ff5) would remain as it is, because it'd help avoid confusion without having to explain the ff14 one.

Alternatively, remove the mayer from the ff14 tag now and revisit the rest if and when the Encyclopedia (or the game) officially adds it to her name.

I meant that imo it's fine to have krile baldesion (ff14) and krile mayer baldesion (ff5). Basically, just remove the middle name from the ff14 tag (because it's an information you only learn after 500 hours into the game and nobody calls her that), but still keep them qualified because it's confusing to have both tags without a qualifier when the only thing that changes is the middle name, especially given how similar "mayer" and "maya" are.
