"Brief" is actually Dr. Brief's first name. It's not clear in canon, which is why some fans use it as a surname for Bulma's side of the family, but that's all just fanon.

That's not his full name, that's a misconception born out from folks misinterpreting Dr. Briefs' name (also, technically, it's Brief [ブリーフ], not Briefs [ブリーフス]). Brief is his given name, not his surname. When Dragon Ball was brought over to the West, most (including the dub staff) misinterpreted it as his surname, leading to its widespread use among less informed fans. This information is out there and has been for years.

The only characters with actual surnames in Dragon Ball are the Son family, and that's only because Sun Wukong had one, thus Son Goku had to have one too.

Having this be the dominant tag name would just spread further misinformation on this issue, and having it be an alias to Trunks' tag would be redundant because you'd already be typing out Trunks in the first place.
