Our current policy for company tags is to not use them unless a post is directly referring to them. This works fine for eastern companies, however it's mostly ignored in the case of the "big two" of comic books, Marvel and DC Comics. The reason is because these are inherently franchises rather than just companies publishing different copyrights, and they're frequently referred to as "universes" rather than merely copyright holders, and given the nature of comics, we'd otherwise have to have a million different copyright tags and expand them every time a new comic series comes out (for those not familiar with them, they're rebooted about once every two years, and old series like spider-man have hundreds of different comic "series". Just look at this list of spider-man titles).
Given that people are currently fine with tagging DC Comics or Marvel on Spider-Man/Batman comics, and given the unfeasibility of applying danbooru logic to those copyright, and given how they're extremely unlike anime and video games franchise, in that crossovers are constantly happening and ever expected rather than a rarity for eastern companies like Nintendo (barring of course things like Smash Bros.), I propose we just turn those two tags into umbrella tags for their various families of comics.
To put the current usage in perspective, 823 out of 1221 spider-man (series) posts are already tagged with Marvel, and so are 779 out of 887 X-men posts. Some characters like Daredevil don't even have their own copyright tags, they just get put into Marvel.
