Our current policy for company tags is to not use them unless a post is directly referring to them. This works fine for eastern companies, however it's mostly ignored in the case of the "big two" of comic books, Marvel and DC Comics. The reason is because these are inherently franchises rather than just companies publishing different copyrights, and they're frequently referred to as "universes" rather than merely copyright holders, and given the nature of comics, we'd otherwise have to have a million different copyright tags and expand them every time a new comic series comes out (for those not familiar with them, they're rebooted about once every two years, and old series like spider-man have hundreds of different comic "series". Just look at this list of spider-man titles).

Given that people are currently fine with tagging DC Comics or Marvel on Spider-Man/Batman comics, and given the unfeasibility of applying danbooru logic to those copyright, and given how they're extremely unlike anime and video games franchise, in that crossovers are constantly happening and ever expected rather than a rarity for eastern companies like Nintendo (barring of course things like Smash Bros.), I propose we just turn those two tags into umbrella tags for their various families of comics.

To put the current usage in perspective, 823 out of 1221 spider-man (series) posts are already tagged with Marvel, and so are 779 out of 887 X-men posts. Some characters like Daredevil don't even have their own copyright tags, they just get put into Marvel.

I think there should also be a Marvel Cinematic Universe umbrella tag specifically just for the movies, I'll put the BUR in if anyone else thinks it'd be useful.

+1 to that. I think it would be useful to have Marvel movies implicating the MCU umbrella tag, so it would at least keep things more separated between general Marvel stuff/comics from the MCU movies and TV series. That way someone could search marvel -marvel_cinematic_universe if they want Marvel posts but not MCU ones.

Creating another umbrella tag specifically for the MCU continuity to differentiate the connected films and TV series from the comics and cartoons. As of right now the GotG tag seems to only has stuff from the movies, but it may need to be gardened later on if anything based on other versions gets posted later on.

BUR #17497 has been rejected.

create implication spider-verse_(comics) -> spider-man_(series)

Just noticed that this tag exists and made a wiki for it. The comic Spider-Verse is pretty much completely different from the animated movies so it's worth having a tag for it imo. Would an umbrella tag for the Spider-Verse films also be worth making, seeing how much art the first one got and that the second one is getting pretty consistent uploads with a third on the way?

That would be because Damian pretty much just made it lmao

Absolutely. People looking for porn of Gwen's Spider-Verse design don't really care which film it's from.

Hey, I only made it because it felt redundant to just have a tag for Edge of Spider-Verse, and to better disambiguate it from a potential spider-verse (film series) or what-have-you tag. You're the one who populated it meanwhile, and you were the one to bring the tag to my attention in the first place, so don't put this on me.

remove implication spider-man:_into_the_spider-verse -> spider-man_(series)
create implication spider-man:_into_the_spider-verse -> spider-verse
remove implication spider-man:_across_the_spider-verse -> spider-man_(series)
create implication spider-verse_(comics) -> spider-verse
create implication spider-man:_across_the_spider-verse -> spider-verse

As mentioned above, creating an umbrella tag for the Spider-Verse films. Will add an implication to the main Spider-Man series in a separate BUR if this goes through
