Got it, I'll keep that in mind then. I thought renames were universal for any tag under 200 posts.

No, the limit of 200 posts for renames was implemented precisely because people were using them too much.
It might not matter much for small tags like this, but you have to see it from the point of view of an user who doesn't browse the forums - when a tag is renamed without an alias, all the old references external to this site are broken, like bookmarks, links, etc.
The bulk update request #4843 (forum #181627) has been approved by @evazion.
