Fairly self-explanatory. Medusa was only one of three sisters with the same snake hair characteristic, and they're collectively known as gorgons. Link's name isn't actually Zelda, no? Not to mention, we already have correct wiki entries for both gorgons and Medusa.
Well it certainly doesn't help you when a lot of fantasy media (especially Japanese) uses medusa to refer to a race of monsters, whether it's Final Fantasy, Dungeon & Dragons, Gate, and other anime or the term is used to indicate the presence of snake-hair like appearance like in Dragon Quest.

Should this tag really be changed manually if there isn't a conclusion?
The conclusion is that just like for the cyclops case, they would rather assume the basest possible stupidity out of users and leave things as they are because "everyone does it", than actually give a hoot and be accurate. So I took the matter in my own hands and retagged them all myself.

Mass-updating the tag yourself without convincing anyone first, leaving 12 tags under medusa and then blanking out medusa wiki isn't called "taking matters in your own hands", it's called vandalism. Calm the fuck down before you receive a negative record and/or a ban.

Sorry, I lost my patience because a previous similar request ended in failure and ad populum arguments *really* get my goat. For what's worth, I figured out 10 of those 12 pictures were deleted ones, so I fixed that. The last two must be behind a "gold only" tag or something.
"Medusa is often portrayed in games as a creature that is a cross between a woman and a snake. The lower body is often a snake tail, and the hair is usually a mass of snakes. Other than this, the head and torso are that of a woman."
From Giantbomb. And I can concur with this definition and things like that don't qualify for this tag (post #1926994) But it also doesn't qualify for gorgon since it has two qualifiers. So only snake hair in this case.

The original myth description, which has nothing to do with videogames, says nothing of a snake half. That said, characters like Sengoku Nadeko likely have nothing to do with the Greek monster, so maybe I should have just removed the tag in most cases, leaving only snake hair.

Then you tag the videogame instance AS the videogame instance. You don't dump all things that happen to resemble said videogame instance into the same box. Now, if you want to create a category for those that are demonstrably based on the Greek monster, then gorgon works as a tag. But you can't use individual fiction examples as basis instead of their common source.
And for the last time, "a Medusa" doesn't exist except as misconception. It's either "Medusa" the mythical figure, or "a gorgon". A million people parroting it and authors going with it instead of checking their facts doesn't make it correct.
? The videogame scene is just an example. But you're right: It turns to be an ad populum argument in this case. But not like "9/10 says it, so it's this way", but this case seems language based. And a term can change its original meaning, that's why there are two tags for Medusa. One for the mythological figure and one for characters who seems based of this concept. So in this case, an alias would be better than a mass update.
If the alias is medusa -> gorgon or gorgon -> medusa is pretty unimportant to me, but nuking a tag is exaggerating.
The base Medusa tag only has two options, it gets aliased elsewhere or it's going to stay empty with a wiki that directs users elsewhere. Medusa is ambigious as a tag, even besides its common use as a race, the fact still remains we have over a dozen character tags with the name Medusa.
@CinderBH Well, you can do it. 1. Click on "Link to Request" in the start post. 2. Click reject 3. Make a bulk request (probably "alias medusa -> gorgon") that lead to this topic. The topic is 12881 which you copy&paste you on the request page.
