Those snacks prepared by them will taste 1000 time better than the ice cream.

The Häagen-Dazs brand is not available in my country, and it so happens I see the name for the first time now. A truly horrible example of "foreign branding" -- for all I know, there is not a single European language where Häagen-Dazs could be a native word.

Funny in its own twisted way, and the comic is really cute. ♥

"From humble beginnings in the USA back in the 1920s, Häagen-Dazs has grown and developed to become the premium ice-cream brand we know today. Häagen-Dazs was registered as a company in 1961 and it still remains a mystery as to where the Scandinavian-sounding name originated." - Taken from their site.

    Thanks!

The name most definitely does not sound Scandinavian, more like a wild mix-up of German or possibly Dutch with some Hungarian.

Even in German texts, the äa combination is rare.

Suwako's eyes in the 2nd panel... does she look a bit off her rocker to anyone?

"The name, Häagen-Dazs, does not derive from any of the North Germanic languages; it is simply two made-up words meant to look Scandinavian to American eyes (the digraphs "äa" and "zs" are not a part of any native words in any of the Scandinavian languages)."
